Iran Has Officially Acknowledged That It Accidentally Shot Down Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752

Daily Mail: Iran finally ADMITS shooting down Ukrainian jetliner: Tehran says military 'unintentionally' fired missiles at Boeing 737 and killed 176 on board because they thought the plane was an 'enemy target'

* Iranian state TV, citing a military statement, says the country 'unintentionally' shot down a Ukrainian jetliner, killing all 176 aboard
* Iran had denied for several days that two missiles downed the aircraft. But then the U.S. and Canada, citing intelligence, said they believe Iran shot down the aircraft
* Iran has since blamed 'human error' for shooting down the plane on Tuesday. The government also offered an apology to families.
* The plane, en route to the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv, was carrying 167 passengers and nine crew members from several countries, including 82 Iranians, at least 63 Canadians and 11 Ukrainians, according to officials
* On Friday, the Federal Aviation Administration revealed that American lives were possibly saved after it issued a notice barring U.S. civilian planes from flying over Iran and Iraq

Iranian state TV, citing a military statement, says the country 'unintentionally' shot down a Ukrainian jetliner, killing all 176 aboard, after mistaking the aircraft for a hostile, enemy target.

The statement came Saturday morning, local time, and blamed 'human error' for shooting down the plane on Tuesday.

Specifically, Iranian officials says the aircraft 'took the flying posture and altitude of an enemy target' as it neared the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps base and attending personal didn't recognize it as a passenger plane.

'Under these circumstances, because of human error, [the plane] came under fire,' the statement read, according to the New York Times.

Following the grave mistake, Iran's government have offered an apology to families.

WNU Editor: As mentioned in a previous post. Iran had no choice. If they tried to cover this up no airline in the world would then fly into Iran. They had to come clean, and to do so quickly.

I don't care about politics here, my head is filled with the fear and horror for those innocent people on that aircraft.

This happens in a hot zone, tragic

A far more experienced American crew, with far better training and equipment made a even graver more stupid mistake not so long ago.

Fazman: you refer to a tragic mistake, that being in 1988 when the USS Vincennes shot down an Iranian airliner. But "stupid" would refer to the Iranians, who initiated an incident with their ships closing on the Vincennes in a hostile manner. The ship was showing active Iranian fighter aircraft about to launch, and then the Iranians sent the civilian airliner, from the same airbase, directly toward the area of potential conflict. The Iranians at no time responded to the hails from the Vincennes, and the ship responded at the last second to what looked to be an air attack. If anyone was stupid, it was the Iranians for dispatching an airliner into a potential combat area of their making. The same stupidity applies in this latest incident.

It was incompetencr of the highest order, at the end of the day they mistook the radar signature of a commercial airliner for a F14.

Seriously trying to save Iran. Now we know who you are.

You can fake radar cross sections.

This was in a hot zone created by Iraq and Iran.

- The USS Samuel B Roberts had been taken out less than 3 months before.
- The the "civilian" mine layer Ali Ajr had been caught less than a year before.
- The USS Stark had been hit a year before that.

The US had a Small Boat Unit (SBU) with PB Mark III patrol boats in the Gulf. They were regularly tangling with the trigger happy Iranians.

We lost a Cobra in the Gulf. It was a hot zone. Has Fazman ever been in a hot zone or seen AAW equipment. I have seen 1980s AAW equipment. It does not leave you with a warm fuzzy.

The jet was hit while flying over Iran's territorial waters in the Persian Gulf, shortly after departing Bandar Abbas International Airport, the flight's stopover location. Vincennes had entered Iranian territory after one of its helicopters drew warning fire from Iranian speedboats operating within Iranian territorial limits.

It was no accident.

Straight of Hormuz is an international waterway with freedom of navigation. It is one that Iran turned into a war zone by mining, attacks on ships, and other violence.

Two destroyers had already been taken out. A cruiser is not that much longer or bigger than a destroyer. It can easily be sunk. Iran had enough problems. ...

The mullahs were clearing minefields with Iranian 15 year-olds that they gave fake plastic keys to paradise. ...

Not even the Germans or Russian did that in WW2.

As if they did not need more problems they were attacking neutrals.
