Meanwhile air force commander Amir Ali Hajizadeh claimed that Iran had been prepared to launch 'hundreds' of missiles aimed at killing up to 5,000 Americans if Trump had decided to retaliate.

I don't know fazman. If the Iranian fired on our fleet as it transited the Straights of Hormuz, there is not much warning. The distance and thus the flight time is very short. Of course there would not be much left of the Iranian military, but they could bloody a carrier group.
How long does it take a missile to close 15 miles at mach .8 or mach 1?
