President Trump: Iran Will 'Never' Get A Nuclear Weapon

Daily Mail: Donald Trump insists Iran will 'NEVER' get a nuclear weapon after Tehran declares it's no longer bound by Obama-era pledge to slow down uranium enrichment

* President Trump vowed Monday Iran 'will never have a nuclear weapon'
* His words came a day after Tehran with drew from the 2015 nuclear pact
* Pact was designed to keep Iran from being able to power a nuclear warhead
* Trump with drew from the pact in 2015
* His administration argues Iran wasn't following it anyway

Donald Trump on Monday insisted Iran will 'never' get a nuclear weapon, a vow that came a day after Tehran said it would no longer abide by the 2015 pact designed to limit its ability to build a weapon

'IRAN WILL NEVER HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON!,' the president tweeted in all capital letters.

On Sunday, Iran announced it would no longer follow the 2015 Obama-era agreement that muzzled its nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief. Trump had formally withdrawn the U.S. from the treaty last year.

An Iranian government spokesman said that Tehran would now base its uranium enrichment levels on its own technical needs rather than the agreement's limits.

This is crazy talk. Of course they can and will have nukes. North Korea did so too with much less. What is DJT thinking atm? He's setting himself up for massive failure. The Iranians will now accelerate their program - wouldn't you? The only thing, they must think, that would protect them from invasion, is a nuclear program. And they might be right.

Nukes do not protect from invasion. Japan found out the hard way.

Japan had nukes wtf?

No they won't, they are not a clandestine regime able to develop nukes in secrecy like N. K.
Israel has infiltrated Iran left, right and centre and their nuclear programme will be set back decades when they get anywhere near breakout.

Anon (10:33PM),

That's very interesting!! As time permits, I will do research on this. Any links or other sources you could provide on this would be helpful.

Fazman,

Generally I agree with some caveats. As long as Trump or someone like him is in office as POTUS I agree Iran will not acquire nuclear weapons. Unfortunately Trump will not be in office beyond 2024 at best and how competent his successor will be is not known. I think Mike Pence is basically competent but does he have the courage to stand up to Iran or the temperament necessary to forge constructive relations with the leaders of countries like Russia and China who hold tremendous sway over Iran as Trump does. Is he as wiley as Putin? Trump clearly seems to have Putin`s number. Frankly I'm skeptical that Pence has what it takes and I'm not seeing anyone else who does. Ted Cruz perhaps. As for the Democrats I'm seeing no one.

Essentially an Iranian nuclear weapon seems unlikely to me as long as Trump is POTUS. Of course some elements will try and distract with the impeachment circus. Also, while the unexpected death of the important brain of Soleimani will set back the ability of the Iranian military to conduct big attacks, they will still be able to conduct rocket attacks of the kind they do regularly as happened this past weejend that received attention above the norm for our media. These types of attacks may even be stepped up for messaging purposes. Iran along with their supporters may use the impeachment circus along with these types of attacks to try and take the pressure off of them. I don't expect Trump or his team to lose focus. So to reiterate Iran will not get nuclear weapons while Trump is POTUS.

Israeli Intel is very good!! They are not going to allow such an existential threat to come to fruition. Part of the problem has been that America tends to get in Israel's way undermining them. Trump has generally been prudent enough to stay out of Israel's way. So essentially as long as this continues and I'd expect it to as long as Trump is POTUS Iran isn't going to get a nuclear weapon.

Carrying out the operation against Soleimani was remarkable, probably one of the most amazing in world history. This was a powerful man with very powerful allies. Thus far Russia, China, and France have condemned the opetation. Ehuke France is a relatively weak country who poses no threat, Russia and China especially Russia scare me as they should scare all Americans. This does not mean will not confront them when necessary but a healthy respect has to be shown. Thus far all they've done is mealy condemnations. They could have and still could do much worse. For sone reason they've largely stood down. IMHO Trump diplomacy deserves the credit. This along with a number of other reports appear to indicate Russian and Chinese support for Iranian actions aren't as rock solid as they once were. Due to Trump displaying the temperament and patience to forge relations with leaders of these nations has made it less problematic to contain Iran here.

For these reasons among others as long as Trump is POTUS I do not think Iran will get a nuclear weapon. For now, I think we can all relax. As to what happens when he leaves office hopefully his replacement will be able to continue his policies.

Iran has large deposits of uranium, centrifuges and nuclear scientists. So a bomb is just a question of time if they want one. The only way to stop it is a large scale invasion and occupation, but that would be considerably more difficult and costly than anything the US has done since Korea

You could well be right. I hope you're wrong. We're facing a major threat and often the excuse/reason is that it's to hard. Therefore we must wait until it's even harder to deal with.

With the elimination of Soleimani the ability of Iran to carry out major attacks, while not eliminated, will be diminished for a time. Exactly how long is not known. Furthermore Trump has stated we do not seek regime change. This suggests we've left open the possibility of negotiations. Has Iran? Were they ever ibterested?

There had been a nascent protest movement in Iran and sanctions were biting. How will the death of Soleimani affect this? Do the benefits of this outweigh the costs? While very risky and had I been POTUS I probably wouldn't have ordered it, I think the benefits outweigh the osts/risks especially since it was successful.
