The Guardian: Amazon boss Jeff Bezos's phone 'hacked by Saudi crown prince'

Exclusive: investigation suggests Washington Post owner was targeted five months before murder of Jamal Khashoggi

The Amazon billionaire Jeff Bezos had his mobile phone “hacked” in 2018 after receiving a WhatsApp message that had apparently been sent from the personal account of the crown prince of Saudi Arabia, sources have told the Guardian.

The encrypted message from the number used by Mohammed bin Salman is believed to have included a malicious file that infiltrated the phone of the world’s richest man, according to the results of a digital forensic analysis.

This analysis found it “highly probable” that the intrusion into the phone was triggered by an infected video file sent from the account of the Saudi heir to Bezos, the owner of the Washington Post.

WNU Editor: If true. The Crown Prince went through a lot of trouble (and exposure) for hacking a citizen's cell phone.

But why?

Could someone have hacked the Prince to get at Bezos?

OR did the Saudis hack Bezos' phone to confirm or see who Bezos knew was doing something blackmailable. A CEO cheating on his wife with a mistress is not news. It is news to the board of directors, investors, and employees, but otherwise it does not matter to many people.

Before 2007, if a newspaper had hacked Epstein's phone to prove he was promiscuous or something people would not be concerned. However, if an intel agency hacked his phone to get dirt on politicians, who ran with Epstein that is news and important.

Unless that politician is Bill Clinton.

I would think Beso's phone would be the telephone equivalent of the Maginot line. IF, of course, the story is accurate. Kinda hard to believe.

Lot of people want to discredit Saudi Arabia.

I do not see where this would move the ball for Saudi Arabia, so I think it is fake or a set-up.

Given the wealth of Bezos you might expect that his phone if any would be safe from hacking. This exercise shows the world that nobody's phone is safe in that respect, as in they can get to anybody. For sure all are susceptible to monitoring.

"A whaling attack, also known as whaling phishing or a whaling phishing attack, is a specific type of phishing attack that targets high-profile employees, such as the CEO or CFO, in order to steal sensitive information from a company, as those that hold higher positions within the company typically have complete access ..."

Either Mohammed bin Salman spear phished Bezos, I cannot imagine why or someone who hijacked Mohammed bin Salman's phone (or pretended to be Mohammed bin Salman).

Spear phishing is social engineering and hacking rolled into one. No one is ever safe from social engineering. Not since the dawn of time.

This is not about monitoring but social engineering.

I could see Mohammed bin Salman hacking Bezoa phone if Mohammed bin Salman was insulted by Bezos or he perceived he was slighted. Bezos might have done it and not realized it or felt good about it.

My comment on monitoring was a tack on. In general cell phones are about monitoring, that is from a governmental perspective, any government.

As usual you have not given this a lot of thought at all.

You should really consider seeing a psychiatrist. Maybe he or she could help by prescribing something to boost you cognitive functioning.
