Tom Rogan, Washington Examiner: What Qassim Soleimani's killing means
The U.S. killing of Qassim Soleimani In Baghdad on Thursday ends an enduring threat. At least in the short term, however, it will unleash Iranian retaliation. The leader of the external action arm of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Soleimani long led that regime's efforts to destroy its enemies and expand its revolution.
From an explosive campaign that killed hundreds of U.S. soldiers in Iraq, to supporting Bashar Assad's regime with legions of Shiite fighters and IRGC operatives, to conducting a campaign of bombings and assassinations and intimidation across the world, Soleimani was a master of his very dark arts. He was a serious and continuing threat to U.S. lives and interests. Indeed, Soleimani masterminded a failed 2011 plot to blow up the then-Saudi ambassador and dozens of diners in a Washington, D.C., restaurant.

WNU Editor: First things first. I suspect that right now all US government agencies, embassies and military bases are on high alert. The Iranians are also going to retaliate. The when and where is still not known.
On a side note. This is what I wrote to a friend tonight on some of my thoughts on why this happened, and what is next.
The assassination of Soleimani is big.
This is going to rattle a lot of people.
The embassy attack crossed a red line.
The assassination of Soleimani crossed another.
I expect more red lines to be crossed in the coming days/weeks.
But President Trump has clearly sent a signal to the Iranian leadership that after the attack on Saudi Arabia's oil fields, Yemen, attacking ships in the Persian Gulf, attacking US bases in Iraq, etc. that enough was enough.
I now expect the Iranians are going to respond directly without using their proxies.
Everyone is now a target.
Do not surprise if insurance rates for shipping in the Gulf go up overnight, as well as the price for oil.

I'll take Attacks from Lebanon for $100...
Yes, escalation could be fast and strong. That is something we can handle. The real problem is in Washington: Democrat will put all their strength to make the task difficult and blame Trump. We have a lot of traitors here.
As we all know the Pakistanis are not the only ones assisting the Taliban in Afghanistan. Iran is also.
So I do not see what the Iranians will do as retaliation, but just upping the tempo as much as they can for a bit.
When did they ever stop attacking us since 1979?
The last Anon is smart. But the Iranians are probably going to test and send missiles everywhere, as a direct respons.
You forget China’s influence over Iran. It’s been there all along. Oil prices skyrocketing destroys the Chinese economy.
China will put huge pressure on Iran to behave. If they don’t, the USN will decided which ships leave the Persian gulf.
This is huge, and practically a declaration of war.
USA has surrounding Iran with military bases, on those months the deploy of troops and weaponry from Turkey to Iraq, now this.
I know USA and Israel considered Soleimani as terrorist, but for Shiite in and outside Iran is a hero that have successfully opposed the American and Israeli colonialism in the area, expanding Iran influence and greatly helped in defeating ISIS and Sunny extremism.
Of course is a matter of opposed interests, in an escalation of attacks and provocations from both side.
I always think that, before or later, a war between USA and Iran will be started, because the fall of Iran can be a huge hit to China and Russia interests, and for all who oppose American imperialism. If that war come in the next months the killing of Soleimani can be maximized, if that act is only a show of force of Trump to divert attentions, this only strengthen the ties between USA enemies.
Nope.
CHUDS. All robot drones will receive 2.5% off the new 2021 models.
CHUDS. I also sell drones at my dealership. Some are armed.
CHUDS.
Always a loser aren't you.
Maybe Obama lol?
It's either fazman or the other idiot russincal.
This could be a serious situation, I truly hope there is a war so idiots like you who laugh, can shit their pants front line.
I like Young Communist. He is like The 3 Stooges, Laurel and Hardy, and Amos and Andy all rolled into one.
If I want real communist dialectic I can just ask the spouse who was taught it and lived it. If I want a bullshit poseur. I just read what YC writes.
YC is wrapped up in his own private Idaho.
YC will have to repeat Venezuela personally and then there is an even chance he still won't learn.
"USA has surrounding Iran with military bases"
YC is a neophyte or dishonest. I suspect the latter. Why are US troops in Bahrain. Because the Iranians were blowing up oil tankers.
"This is huge, and practically a declaration of war."
And attacking the embassy was not? Are you for reals are just all shits & giggles like a little g.i.r.l. I suspect the latter.
"for all who oppose American imperialism."
I have worked overseas. In at least 2 countries foreign companies can only own 49% of a subsidiary in those countries. I do not think that is a bad thing. Meanwhile those same countries own 100% of their subsidiaries in the US. So much for imperialism. So I ask the gentle readers. Is YC is putting us on or is he really that stupid?
"because the fall of Iran can be a huge hit to China"
If the theocracy fell, the new government would still sell oil to China. Only there would be a difference. Iran would sell China more oil at a cheaper price. Is that a bad thing for China's interests? Would their economy be better off with cheaper fuel inputs? Would the resulting increased profits and therefore taxes help in modernizing China's military? Is YC so full of it that his eyes are brown?
Antitroll,
I have been on the front line. The only shitter I see here is you.
The wise man would say; “We’ll see”.
I suspect more activity by Iran for sure, but Iraq is moving closer and closer to a failed state if Iran uses it as a staging area for its brand of Islam. This makes our positions there hard to defend if the Iraqis are going to allow Iran to run the show.
Happy New Year!
If Iraq Is going to be a failed state might as well add Anbar to Syria or Saudi Arabia and create Kurdistan.
It would be real nice, if Kurds, Sunnis, and Shia could go to their mosques on Friday and not kill each other. There are Protestants and Catholics in my family, which is not unusual, and there is no sectarian violence or so much as an unkind word.
John Paul II was popular among Protestants. He had a 'rock star' tour in the US. Why can;t Muslims be like that?
Al Jarida, a Kuwaiti newspaper which in recent years had broken exclusive stories from Israel, says Israel was 'on the verge' of assassinating Soleimani, but the U.S. warned Tehran and thwarted the operation
Thanx Obama! Ya bottom.
