A Close Look At An A-10 Warthog Pilot's Helmet

Airman 1st Class Hayden Legg, US Air Force/Business Insider: How an A-10 Warthog pilot's helmet keeps them alive and on target

* The HGU-55/P helmet gives A-10 pilots a central interface for everything they need, from their oxygen supply to communications to flight instruments.
* One of those add-ons, the Hybrid Optical-based Inertial Tracker, or HObIT, allows pilots to use their helmet-mounted cueing system for more accurate weapons delivery.

Most people have worn a helmet, whether for sports or riding a bike, but probably nothing like the helmet A-10C Thunderbolt II pilots use to connect them to their aircraft.

The HGU-55/P helmet provides A-10 pilots a central interface for everything they need, from oxygen supply to communications to flight instruments.

"The helmet is a multi-faceted tool that provides protection and life support as a baseline," said 1st Lt. Anton King, 75th Fighter Squadron pilot.

WNU Editor: I hope it does not cost $400,000 like the F-35 helmet .... $400,000 helmet for F-35 fighter pilots ‘absolutely’ worth the money, creator says (Engineering & Technology).

"Crow, who is based at the company’s headquarters in Iowa, US, said the helmet was designed specifically for use in the warplane."

And that's the problem. This helmet is not future proof for all the tech going into it.

1. Nothing is future proof
2. The wArthog is good for fighting 2nd/3rd/4th tier militaries
3. The air force must prepare to fight 1st tier militaries and must be able to do so in overwhelming fashion, otherwise, you know, us critics and armchair pilots will actually have to compromise our way of life in the future and that's just not something Americans do.

The bill for your "freedom" keeps climbing year after year until you realise who America's God is: Capitalism

You pray at that alter 9-5pm already, just go 24/7 and be honest about your belief system

The USG has different models for compensation. One is "cost plus". Part of the price might be USG rights to the tech data, who the USG can share it with and how soon.

It is sort of like drug prices. They cost more when they are 1st on the market and under patent.

You are paying more than materials here. You are paying for code.

If militaries still design want and use prop planes in this day and age then slower jets will have a place too.

Why is WNU concerned? He is not a US taxpayer. Does he have a dog in the fight?

7:38 was talking about capitalism. They know nothing about the subject. They are at least 15 years behind on terminology and concepts. Has 7"38 heard of state controlled capitalism or authoritarian capitalism? 7:38 please try to keep up. Just a little. You are 200 years out of date.

I leave it for historians to judge how smart YOU are

8:42 do you want a little cheese with your whine?

Authoritarian capitalism

"As a political economic model, authoritarian capitalism is not a recent phenomenon."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Authoritarian_capitalism

You find references to it in Foreign Affairs mag circa 2004. You and/or 7:38 are still channeling Karl Marxipad from the 19th century.

Personally, I would not leave it up to historians. They sit next to journalists. Makes me wonder about your college experience, whether you had one at all or if it was a haze. Anyhoo, you have not been keeping up with the latest on historians. Figures.

Do what you are good at. You should join with your ilk, Mifsud f or example, get some prostitutes and go at it. He is a full prof with a doctorate so he has to be smart.
