The Spectator: Time to Drop Defense Guarantees to the Philippines

President Duterte is making it easier for the U.S. to do the right thing.

Rodrigo Duterte, the ever-unpredictable president of the Philippines, has given official notice to terminate the Visiting Forces Agreement (VFA) that governs the presence of U.S. military personnel. Among other complaints, he said Americans were rude and failed to leave their weapons after conducting military exercises on the islands. The VFA will conclude in six months, which actually is great news.

Although Americans always believed in continental expansion — even Thomas Jefferson spoke of an Empire of Liberty — “saltwater imperialism” was alien to the nation’s founding. Proposals to turn America into a traditional colonial power by conquering foreign peoples generated strong opposition. After all, Americans had revolted against their British masters.

WNU Editor: My answer is yes. The Philippine President and government have made it very clear that they see no future in having a security arrangement with the U.S.. So why continue it?

WASHINGTON – A national association of federal judges has called an emergency meeting Tuesday to address growing concerns about the intervention of Justice Department officials and President Donald Trump in politically sensitive cases, the group’s president said Monday.

Philadelphia U.S. District Judge Cynthia Rufe, who heads the independent Federal Judges Association, said the group “could not wait” until its spring conference to weigh in on a deepening crisis that has enveloped the Justice Department and Attorney General William Barr.

“There are plenty of issues that we are concerned about,” Rufe told USA TODAY. “We’ll talk all of this through.”

Didn't Duterte have all those drug dealers killed? Yeah he did. THOUSANDS (!) without conviction. Shot to death under his command. Just Google it.

Now. .here's the funny bit.

Turns out that after having thousands of young men killed, Duterte's own son seems to be involved with the neighbouring Chinese drug trade.

now will Duterte have his own son killed in the name of the law? Of course not. His son got caught more than a year ago and never even had to see jail and certainly not the end of a gun barrel.

Now that guy,Duterte, the scum of the earth, who has one law applied to all other young men who died in the streeta, but his son who sold out to China goes free. .this guy wants the US gone so China can take over.

Not sure if we're doing the philippinos a favour one way or the other, but I sure hope justice will visit the Dutertes for what they've done and gotten away with for so long

We need to tread carefully, this guy could be gone in a few years and they may want us back. We have a long history with the Philippines.
