WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. military is preparing to report a more than 50 percent jump in the number of cases of traumatic brain injury stemming from Iran’s missile attack on a base in Iraq last month, U.S. officials told Reuters on Monday.

The officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity ahead of an announcement, said there were over 100 cases of TBI, up from the 64 previously reported last month.

The Pentagon declined to comment, but in the past had said to expect an increase in numbers in the weeks after the attack because symptoms can take time to manifest and troops can sometimes take longer to report them.

No U.S. troops were killed or faced immediate bodily injury when Iran fired missiles at the Ain al-Asad base in Iraq in retaliation for the U.S. killing of Revolutionary Guard General Qassem Soleimani in a drone strike at Baghdad airport on Jan. 3.

A growing number of victims somewhat like the ever expanding number of people who claim to have seen the plane that crashed into the Pentagon, you know, some time ago.

But Trump said simply headaches

They can see things now that they could not see 3 decades ago.

Read the literature (2000-2010) about scientists discussing how PTSD works. This same attack 3 decades ago would not have produced 5 or 10 casualties.

Also injury give you a 5 point bonus in federal hiring. It goes from the normal 5 point veteran bonus to 10 points. It is probably cheaper to pay them than than to PET or CAT scan the lot of them.

Without a scan you would have to rely on troop location versus impact location and mapping out the pressure differential to gain some appreciation of what is what. Suppose their shelter location (for some of them) is a masonry building with glass windows and they were standing in the innermost part of the building and the glass didn't break. All we have now is supposition.

We do not know and journalists are not going to find out.

Its called a concussion and that happens when big booms occur close by.

What I want to know is how close by, the pressure gradient, the shelter used. Sandbags, building, concrete sewer tube, ...
