Russian Media Is Hinting That The U.S. Is Responsble For The Coronavirus Outbreak

Channel One's Kirill Kleymyonov suggested that the theory of a US role in the outbreak could not be dismissed out of hand

BBC: Coronavirus: Russian media hint at US conspiracy

The coronavirus outbreak in China has provided fertile ground for conspiracy theories and misinformation on the web everywhere, but in Russia they are being spread on primetime news programmes.

Russian TV is also unique in having a consistent overall thrust: that shadowy Western elites and especially the US are somehow ultimately to blame.

One of main national TV networks, Channel One, has even launched a regular slot devoted to coronavirus conspiracy theories on its main evening news programme, Vremya ("Time").

The style of the reporting is ambiguous, appearing to debunk the theories while leaving viewers with the impression that they contain a kernel of truth.

One of the wilder ideas aired by Vremya recently is that the presence of the word "corona", which means crown in both Latin and Russian, in the word coronavirus hints that Donald Trump is somehow involved.

These rumours could be very dangerous. It could be a bio weapon which has accidentally been released from a facility. It may have jumped species. If another country released a bio weapon into another country with a nuclear arsenal, watch the skies for missiles.

I have knowledge in this field. It is not a weapon. It would be reckless to do as there is no way to predict mutations and where it'll stop. It kills indiscriminatEly. It kills you me them. without boundaries

I blame the liberals and Obama

From what I have seen the USG is not capable of such a thing. For one thing there are way too many people like Peter Stroke. Stroke can't do much more than cuckold the next guy and backstab other primates.

Quid Pro Joe was too interested in laundering USG foreign aid back into his bank account.

There are not an infinite number of viruses. Corona virus of whatever variation has existed and will exist again. Think more of the immune system as a dog chasing its tail. The number of types of viruses is sufficiently large that at any time the no one immune system can be optimized for them all. It places bets and that is the best you can do.

I do blame liberals and Obama.

Maybe, if we had better relations with the Russians, this smear would not be promoted by the Russians.

TY liberals for your GD witch hunt.

Fuckers!

Just buy some corona beer. Fight corona with the corona.

If you developed something like this virus, but also developed the antidote, risk of release could be somewhat mitigated.

You've pretty much nailed it. There's very little to add except, while the fault does primarily lie with so called "liberals" for promoting and implementing misguided policies toward Russia Republicans and so called "conservatives" bear much blame as well. Other than perhaps a few tepid protests they pretty much stood silent and even appeared in many cases to actually support these misguided policies!!

Very respectfully part of the issue with an anonymous poster is it's hard to always know who I am addressing. It's helpful to use a screen name as it makes it easier to identify the poster.

Perhaps you are new here. I've been raising points similar to what you raised. Essentially we need better relations with Russia. Then it'd be much easier to counter these smears. Actually it goes way beyond that.

For making these points such as what you have made I have had my patriotism questioned, my American nationality questioned, and have been accused of being a Russian troll. As you may be new here, consider this a heads up and a warning!!

The Russian lie that the US created the corona virus is a pernicious blood libel just like the blood libel that the USSR used in the 1980s saying the US created HIV.

Blood libels have the power to destroy peoples and nations. Turnabout is fair play. Fire?

Poster--you are and remain a Russian tool. Phuck Russia. They kill opponents; Putin is a dictator, and their nation is but a shadow of what they were. Now their big thing is sending bots like you around to fill the air with bullshit

Fire? Perhaps. I was young and mostly unconcerned about such things in the 1980s. With that said I do vaguely recall the vicious smear that the US created HIV that was said to originate from the USSR. I also seen to recall our government's very tepid efforts to push back against this. Admittedly my memory from the 80s on this is sketchy to say the least.

What does seem evident is we have typically been very poor at messaging while our adversaries and potential adversaries have typically been very, very good at this. As such, it seems highly likely this is the case in the 1980s as well. I'd suggest getting better at messaging and countering the messages with truth.

Additionally a comparison of the situation in the 1980s to today is IMHO tepid at best. It seems to me as an "apples to oranges" comparison. Three main differences that come to mind are 1.) In Cold War 1 it seemed much clearer as to who the good guys and the bad guys were as the Soviet Union was obviously the bad guy. Today this seems far less clear. 2.) During Cold War 1 a common bond was shared in having jointly defeating Nazi Germany. As such, they respected us and perhapseven feared us as great warriors. Today it appears for the most part not only do the Russians not respect us but hold us in utter contempt. At least they do appear to respect and even fear President Trump. IMHO this fear and respect for Trump has someone kept things in check. 3.) While the US military does appear to be very formidable, unless we take Trump's bluster in the recent STOU at face value and I do not, we do not possess the military prowess relative to adversaries and potential adversaries now that we possessed in Cold War 1.

We agree that blood libels do indeed have the power to destroy peoples and nations. After all Hitler used these to justify mass genocide against the Jews. No doubt there have been others throughout history.

In fact, it is very concerning that blood libels such as this one discussed in the article or perhaps one or more of the many others leveled against us could be used to justify mass genocide against America. It appears to me that numerous opportunities to defuse tebsujba with Russia have not only been missed but in many cases our leadership has recklessly stoked tensions. By not taking what seemed to be obvious opportunities to defuse tensions wirh Russia coupled with the minimal risks associated with doing so such blood libels are given fertile soil whereby they are able to flourish.

Not sure if you've noticed but when Trump has disagreements with China or Russia he seems to be very careful to focus on the areas of disagreement and to avoid attacking the leadership personally. In my personal experienc4, such things are among the marks of mature people and are much more likely to yield results than will personal attacks. If/when Reupicans gain seats in the Senate and take the House as I think they will, Trump should be better able to implement his policies. Furthermore by standing up to the establishment as Trump has this should provide an example to others that they don't need to be afraid.

I'm optimistic that this will get don . Trump will be instrumental in defusing the tensions surrounding Cold War 2 and even ending it. That would be awesome for everyone. Unfortunately it seems to me as though he's the only one on our side who can get this done. Perhaps another leader may emerge.

You have no argument. Therefore you must resort to insults and slander.

The descriptions of Russia and Putin you make bear much similarity to most governments around the world. Of course ideologues do tend to eat such things as your description of Russia up and then they are in turn used as a basis to justify misguided policies.

As to Russia being a shadow of its former self, some reports suggest Tussua has upgraded its nuclear arsenal and its submarines are among the most stealthy in the world making them very difficult to track. I could go on.
Suffice it to say I don't think it's a wise assumption to blythely assume that Russia is a shadow of what it used to be militarily.

Now if you do have something constructive to add here that doesn't involve insults and slander, I will try and address it. As I am quite busy, I may be unable to do so until tomorrow.

Operation INFEKTION was the popular name given to a disinformation campaign run by the KGB in the 1980s to plant the idea that the United States had invented HIV/AIDS as part of a biological weapons research project at Fort Detrick, Maryland.

That Russian disinformation campaign is pointing the figure at the US is likely evidence that they know or suspect the virus is manmade, and they want to push the blame away from their ally China (who is the only possible government who could have created a virus and released it in Wuhan).

Anonymous said...

So much BS and speculation. A cult (Aum Shinrikyo), a terrorists group (GIA), a small company, narco-terrorists, Hezbollah or many other groups could create a deadly virus with gene splicing technology.

If you can run drugs into China, you could run one test tube (12 Monkeys).

So let's add to the BS. The Russian smuggled it ion to Wuhan and released blaming the Chinese like they were going to blame the Chinese for launching a nuke against Honolulu.
