Without NYC we'd be 32,000 cases lighter.

https://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/local/ny-covid-19-cases-doubling-every-3-days-feds-say-self-quarantine-after-visit-to-nyc/2343128/

But as recently as March 2nd - well within the time frame for the realization of social distancing and general precautions - NYC/NY State pols were saying this:

Oxiris Barbot, NYC Health Commissioner Mar 2nd: "The risk for New Yorkers is low - and that our preparedness as a city is very high. There is no reason not to take the subway, not to take the bus, not to go out to you favorite restaurant and CERTAINLY not to miss the [Chinese New Year] Parade next Sunday".

NY State Sen. John Liu Mar 2nd: "There's really no need to panic and to avoid activities [Chinese New Year] that we always do as New Yorkers. We are a hardy people. As an Asian American I've been somewhat disturbed if not outright appalled at some of the comments or gestures that I have seen. Diseases originate from anywhere or from particular places in the world"

NY State Sen. Brian Kavanagh Mar 2nd: "Its very important that we recognize that this holiday and that this festival [Chinese New Year Parade] is of tremendous significance for many communities in our state and its uh, very important that we ensure that uh, we don't have misinformation and many in the media have been covering uh, this issue uh, as if its a terrible plague that people have to avoid"

NYC is a deep blue urban center run by incompetent leaders who cower to Chinese racial propaganda over the safety of their citizens.

And its becoming tedious to watch Democrat governors and mayors shut their state and local economies down, then scream at the Federal Gov't (Trump) to make them whole.

Pick and choose but it was the president of the country who said nothing to worry about...the buck stops there. that moron still at it:

They’ve pleaded for the White House to invoke the Defense Production Act, the legislation that would compel American companies to make critical supplies. President Trump has refused. “I just haven’t had to use it,” Trump said Thursday night.

Interviews with hospital purchasing managers, state emergency management officers and even the middlemen themselves paint a different picture. They portray a broadly dysfunctional system across the United States, with hospitals and health authorities having few options but to rely on largely unknown middlemen whose priority appears to be making a profit as they promise to quickly replenish the nation’s depleted medical stockpiles.

The companies exist outside the traditional medical supply chain and offer wildly varying levels of price and quality, leaving hospitals with limited recourse when deliveries go wrong. The frenzy is helping drive up costs and forcing already strained hospital leaders to vet suppliers for dangerous counterfeits and scams.

Without clear federal coordination, states and hospital groups say they are having to grapple with suppliers eager to secure sales and squeeze profits from companies spending billions of dollars to combat the viral spread.

The governors of New York, Texas, Illinois and other states have said they are competing with the federal government and other states in a mad scramble for lifesaving supplies such as surgical masks, N95 respirators, isolation gowns and ventilators that are widely drained or out of stock.

They are also dealing with a frenzy of pitches from unknown suppliers offering to sell them the materials directly from Chinese factories. Christian Mitchell, deputy governor of Illinois, said he’s on a team of more than a dozen staffers attempting to sort through a dizzying array of sellers offering masks and medical equipment.

Without NY? WHAT A DUMB REMARK!
NY is the financial and art center of the nation!
without New Orleans we would have lower numbers. without Florida, we would have lower numbers...

This denial of science and critical thinking among religious ultraconservatives now haunts the American response to the coronavirus crisis. On March 15, Guillermo Maldonado, who calls himself an “apostle” and hosted Mr. Trump earlier this year at a campaign event at his Miami megachurch, urged his congregants to show up for worship services in person. “Do you believe God would bring his people to his house to be contagious with the virus? Of course not,” he said.

Rodney Howard-Browne of The River at Tampa Bay Church in Florida mocked people concerned about the disease as “pansies” and insisted he would only shutter the doors to his packed church “when the rapture is taking place.” In a sermon that was live-streamed on Facebook, Tony Spell, a pastor in Louisiana, said, “We’re also going to pass out anointed handkerchiefs to people who may have a fear, who may have a sickness and we believe that when those anointed handkerchiefs go, that healing virtue is going to go on them as well.”

By all accounts, President Trump’s tendency to trust his gut over the experts on issues like vaccines and climate change does not come from any deep-seated religious conviction. But he is perfectly in tune with the religious nationalists who form the core of his base. In his daily briefings from the White House, Mr. Trump actively disdains and contradicts the messages coming from his own experts and touts as yet unproven cures.

Turns out no one else wants the people from the dumbest state in the union either.

https://wpde.com/news/nation-world/states-impose-new-restrictions-on-travelers-from-new-york
"BOSTON (AP) — States are pulling back the welcome mat for travelers from the New York area, which is the epicenter of the country's coronavirus outbreak, and some say at least one state's measures are unconstitutional.

Governors in Texas, Florida, South Carolina and Maryland this week ordered people arriving by plane from the New York area —including New Jersey and Connecticut — to self-quarantine for at least 14 days upon arrival.

Connecticut officials have also pleaded with New Yorkers and others from out of state to avoid visiting unless absolutely necessary.

But, in the most dramatic steps taken to date, Rhode Island State Police on Friday began pulling over drivers with New York plates so that National Guard officials can collect contact information and inform them of a mandatory, 14-day quarantine if they're planning to remain in the state."
