WASHINGTON — A Pentagon official said Tuesday that the number of coronavirus cases within the military and the overall Defense Department is probably higher than the total that has been reported.

“I think that it is likely that the number is higher,” U.S. Air Force Brigadier General Paul Friedrichs, the senior health official for the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said during a press briefing. He added that currently there are six known cases of COVID-19: three active-duty service members, one civil servant, four dependents and one contractor.

“I think it is likely given what we are seeing around the world and the fact that we have people all over the world that there are more than nine people affiliated with the Department of Defense,” he explained.

Friedrichs added that the DOD currently has 13 laboratories carrying out tests on the coronavirus.

Sounds like a comment on incidents of internal rape.

You have first hand knowledge of all the internal rape, Bob? Did you serve in the US Mil and observe or all this "internal raping"? I suspect you've never served and have no idea about "internal rape" in the military other than MSM sources. Who have their own agenda.

On the other hand I served in the USN and neither witnessed nor participated in any "internal raping". I was too busy working 12 on 12 off shifts.

I'd just hazard a guess that rape is far more prevalent on college campuses than in the military.

All of official Washington has come to an agreement that swift, bold action is needed to counteract the dramatic economic impact of the coronavirus’ spread. But negotiations around such a package have been complicated by the fact that President Donald Trump can’t stand the idea of negotiating one-on-one with his chief counterpart, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. Indeed, he suspects that she would use the moment to try to humiliate him.

Two senior Trump administration officials described a president who, out of an intense bitterness toward the House Speaker, has shuddered at the prospect of being in the same room with her during the ongoing public-health crisis and economic reverberations.

Instead, Trump has deputized some of his more prominent lieutenants to handle the delicate negotiations.

House Democrats on Monday night balked at President Trump's proposed payroll tax cut designed to help shore up the economy amid the coronavirus outbreak.

After the worst day on Wall Street in more than a decade, Trump said he would ask Congress to pass an emergency economic package that includes both a payroll tax cut and relief for hourly workers to fight the economic fallout from the coronavirus.

But Democrats argued that cutting the federal payroll tax would not help people who have lost their jobs in this sudden downturn, or who are part of the gig economy and do not get paid by the hour.

Asked if the payroll tax cut was dead on arrival on Capitol Hill, Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.) replied: "I think so."
