Russ,

At first I thought you were being sarcastic. After all surely they can't be that irrational. Sure enough they are!! The very real economic and personal pain that is being wrought by the current hysterical overreaction to this far exceeds the disease itself.

Some are nearing the point of isolating elderly people from their loved ones. The loss of this support from loved ones will hasten the end of their lives far faster than COVID-19 ever could.

According to both Johns Hopkins Medical and the Mayo Clinic the flu has infected and killed about 30,000,000 people and 20,000 respectively. Somewhere an influenza virus must be wondering what must it do to get some attention!!

B,

Italy's Top Drs. Recommend Stopping Treatment of Elderly

Italian coronavirus death toll climbs by 196 to 827 in 24 hours as country's top doctors say intensive care units should stop treating the elderly https://t.co/EzKIIU4tyf

I would imagine that Tom Hanks and his wife are in excellent health and will receive the best best care available.

His case will be close examination and "live blogging" of someone going through this illness. I wish Hanks well and I hope that his experience will lead to some hope and optimism about this virus.

I'll be following him closely. I hope he communicates regularly.

Russ,

This doesn't surprise. I've read many things that suggest this is how Europeans think. Unfortunately our leaders and many of our citizens in America may not be much different.

Of course the Italian leadership might not need an excuse to stop treatment for the elderly as this may be just how they are. Of course by not treating a sick person naturally this would have the effect of driving up the death rate. If someone wanted to drive up the mortality rate in order to further stir up mass hysteria such a situation would be tailor made for this if someone actually wanted to do this.

Tom Hanks has 2 Risk factors. He is around 65 and he is diabetic. This is America, so he most likely won't die.

If he lived in the land of la vita dolce, his chance of being given a pain pill and his chances of dying would be great. If he lived in Canada, his chances of dying would be higher than in the US.

The only reasons why the Italian socialists would not give him a pain pill and tell him to call the morgue is, because he is a celeb. The socialists have gutted Italy. The high taxes have discourage people from having children and the population pyramid shows this.

Statistically we would expect both Tom Hanks and Rudy Gobert the NBA player to fully recover fairly quickly, however, if COVID-19 proves to be like other infections diseases, the flu for example, it's not if but when they will kill someone who was young and healthy before they got sick. Wrong microbe at the wrong time perhaps. As the saying goes, we will all die of something someday. The hope and prayer is that with a healthy lifestyle and smart choices we can enhance our chances of living a long time. Knowing this will happen does NOT warrant the current hysterical overreaction.

The passing of a high profile person who was healthy before getting sick would certainly feed the current hysteria. Certain governments who might see a way to gain an edge this way might consider orchestrating such a path.

I get the feeling that someone had no problem getting the word count for book reports even when they never read the book.

Good thing I have my hazmat waders on.

Tom Hanks and his wife, also confirmed to have the virus are in Australia. If he/she were in the US I imagine they would have been tested, hopefully.

Poster : you are a fucking bot and causing trouble for this country, proving what has long been known: anyone with brains knows you are working for the russian govt and trying to cause chaos...we have shot for the flu. We do not yet know how to offer shots for this Coronavirus and yet you try to down play the seriousness of what is taking place...

You are a troll. I've already explained where and how you can find me. Yet you haven't made the attempt. Your arguments are weak and tiresome.

"Causing chaos .." the hysterical overreaction to this has already caused 100s of billions in economic damage and perhaps even trillions in damage with no end in sight. Additionally certain health care facilities are considering isolating elderly people from their loved ones. The loss of this direct support will only hasten their demis . This is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg!! The overreaction has sewn mass chaos indeed!!

While we do have shots for the flu, the flu has infected about 30M this far and killed at least 20K. This suggests the shot's effectiveness is limited or people aren't getting them. Also, there's the side effects of the vaccine that some have reported from the flu shots. We don't have vaccines for allot of things yet we don't give into mass panic or overblown hysteria.

To put in perspective, H1N1 Flu killed approximately 12.5K. No travel bans or mass quarantines were put in place.

I'm not downplaying the seriousness of the situation. I am suggesting sensible responses. As with any infectious disease outbreak, there is always a risk it could become the "big one." By overreacting on the front end this risks making it harder to contain on the back end.

"Coronavirus and yet you try to down play the seriousness of what is taking place...

Why is it COVID 19. That is NINETEEN not 1, 2, or 3?

It is because people get into contact with corona viruses day in and day out. They are ubiquitous.

The high death toll in Italy is because Italy is a socialistic cesspool. The communist have held sway their since WW2 and it shows. Chinese buying up everything more old people the children and now this.

But Italy is a poster child of what mind numbed, brainwashed robots like Parrot want.

PS: I did not mean the part about mind number or brain washed. JK. Parrot does not have a brain.

And the Parrot just shat all over these pages yet again.

I guess What Robert Heinlein said about parrots is true. They are not quite human.

"Anyone who cannot cope with mathematics is not fully human. At best he is a tolerable subhuman who has learned to wear shoes, bathe, and not make messes in the house."

- Robert Heinlein

Parrot making messes everyday.
