Reuters: Coronavirus pandemic "could be over by June" if countries act, says Chinese adviser

BEIJING (Reuters) - The global coronavirus pandemic could be over by June if countries mobilize to fight it, a senior Chinese medical adviser said on Thursday, as China declared the peak had passed there and new cases in Hubei fell to single digits for the first time.

Around two-thirds of global cases of the coronavirus have been recorded in China’s central Hubei province, where the virus first emerged in December. But in recent weeks the vast majority of new cases have been outside China.

Chinese authorities credit strict measures they have taken, including placing Hubei under near total lockdown, with preventing big outbreaks in other cities, and say other countries should learn from their efforts.

“Broadly speaking, the peak of the epidemic has passed for China,” said Mi Feng, a spokesman for the National Health Commission. “The increase of new cases is falling.”

Meanwhile, the Federal Reserve promises a $500 billion per day bailout of the bankrupt baking system which ensures that the coronavirus will be with us much longer than six months.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said in testimony to the House Oversight Committee, "the idea of anybody getting [a test] easily the way people in other countries are doing it, we’re not set up for that. Do I think we should be? Yes. We’re not."

"The system is not geared to what we need right now," he said. That is a failing. It’s a failing. Let’s admit it."

Carl, what's wrong with the baking system? Are you allergic to gluten? Everyone loves and needs breads and cakes!

More Communist Chinese propaganda.

It will be summer time in June. So if the recommended actions are superfluous or not, the pandemic will slow down and stop and by that time there will be significant herd immunity.

But the important thing is that politicians and scientists can take credit.

Where does flu go in summer?

The easing of flu outbreaks doesn’t mean the virus dies out in warmer temperatures. It just doesn’t transmit as easily. So, even if the coronavirus does subside in the summer, it could return in the fall

On Wednesday night, Trump took the rare step of delivering a formal address to the public from the Oval Office. It turned out to be a catastrophe. If you’d asked me Wednesday morning, I would have said, “How bad could 10 minutes of reading a speech from a teleprompter possibly be?” The answer turns out to be worse than I’d thought.

The entire focus of the speech was wildly misguided, focused on ginning up xenophobia and restricting travel from abroad when the coronavirus is already spreading seemingly uncontrolled inside the United States.

But even within the narrow premise that delivering an Oval Office address about new restrictions on European travel was a good idea, Trump screwed it up beyond belief.

For starters, he misstated the policy, saying that he was banning all travel from Europe and eliding the fact that US citizens, US lawful permanent residents, and their families are exempted from the ban.

It maybe under some sort of control by June because the summer months kill off the coronavirus but when the winter months start again it will be back with a vengence.
