US Willing To Provide Turkey With Military Aid In Its Fight Against Syria

Turkish defense minister meets US envoy for talks on Idlib

Newsweek: U.S. Willing to Supply Turkey With Military Aid In Its Fight Against Syria, White House Says

The White House is willing to offer some military assistance to Turkey to assist an insurgency against neighboring Syria, which has received support from Russia and Iran, a senior U.S. diplomat said Tuesday.

James Jeffrey, who serves as both the State Department's special representative for Syria and the presidential envoy to the fight against the Islamic State militant group (ISIS) told reporters in Turkey's southern border province of Hatay that the Turkish forces "mainly use our equipment, we want to make sure the equipment is ready when they need to use it," according to Turkey's state-run Anadolu Agency.

"We're willing to provide—for example, the President [Donald Trump] mentioned this—ammunition," he said, Reuters reported.

Both outlets also cited David Satterfield, Washington's ambassador to Ankara, as saying that the Trump administration was also studying a Turkish request to send Patriot surface-to-air missile systems.

I suppose we have to, spheres of influence factored in.

Its a damn shame that we have to, they should be turfed out of Nato and left to fend for themselves.

What they are doing to the Kurds and with refugees to the EU alone, should be reason enough.

There is a point .... The USSR shouldn't support Assad's reckless moves in Syria.

What does the USSR want? A naval base in the Eastern Mediterranean and an air base to cover it. That can be done in Latakia.

Why does WNU advocate for a federal system in Ukraine like they have in Canada, but has not come out strongly for one in Syria or Iraq? What does that say?

If there was a federal system with a Kurdish regional government or a Kurdish nation, how would that threaten the Russian desire for bases in Latakia?

How many detentions, tortures, disappearances into Assad's prisons by secret police will the USSR tolerate in Syria and for how long? All for a naval base? Is 10,000 disappeared not too much? 100,000? 500,000 not too much?

Does the USSR have a problem with the Kurds? Many of the Kurds profess to be communist as liberals in America love to point out. So why should the Russkis have a problem with a federated system?

Why couldn't the Russkis get along with the Syrians and the Kurds? The Russkis were allies with the Somalis and the Ethiopians in the 1970s. Can you re-teach an old dog old tricks?
