Politico: It's Not Just the WHO: How China Is Moving on the Whole U.N.
Despite his saber-rattling, Trump's pullback actually helps Beijing in its new, inside-baseball strategy to build influence.
President Donald Trump has decided to halt U.S. funding for the World Health Organization, accusing it of kowtowing to China in the early stages of the coronavirus pandemic by applauding the Chinese government’s “transparency” and uncritically accepting Beijing’s assertions, such as that the virus was not transmissible between humans. The WHO, Trump said, has become “very China-centric.”
It might be easy to dismiss this move as trademark Trumpian blame deflection or saber-rattling or shortsighted isolationism. But for people who’ve been watching China’s growing activism in the United Nations closely, the WHO’s deference to China is no surprise. In fact, it’s just the exposed tip of a dangerous iceberg — and Trump is careening straight toward it.
Beijing’s leverage over the WHO cannot be understood independently of a much longer and broader campaign, one that aims to bend the arc of global governance toward a more illiberal orientation that privileges the interests of authoritarian actors.

WNU Editor: Being a former employee of the UN, I find it astounding on how China has positioned itself in the past two decades to hold key positions within the U.N. bureaucracy and its agencies, and/or to have its allies in those positions. In the past a country's influence within the the UN was determined by its financial contribution. The U.S was always the biggest contributor (it still is), and it derived its influence from that commitment. No more now. And this is not a trend that started under President Trump as the above Politico article is claiming. I have been noticing this trend for almost 20 years, and during that time there has been no blow-back against this trend from the West. Will President Trump change this? I hope so. Because we now know that when an important international body becomes corrupt and/or incompetent, the price that we must all pay can become astronomical.

Likely the Chinese target key people at the UN, spy on them, turn them and then force them to support their causes. This is full on cold war and people better wake up. Lose lips sink ships. I'd start in silicon valley, NYC, Washington DC, Hollywood and Media like CNN
The U.S. are the first to corrupt ONU, waging the wars they want thanks to government fake news without any blowback or punishment, changing or betraying international agreement unilaterally when president change, causing instability where they want, even among allies, only for their sake.
Having General Secretary of ONU more weak one after another made the game easy for U.S, but this is a game that other can play. And better if the whole world is tired on how U.S. push his egoism.
US started too many unjust wars with fake intelligence and this is the main reason why they have lost the influence in the UN.

Coronavirus ends China's honeymoon in Africa
Africa was supposed to be China’s new stomping grounds. Instead, the novel coronavirus has spawned a growing backlash that threatens to unwind the ties Beijing has carefully cultivated over decades.
The trigger for the burgeoning diplomatic crisis: Anger over the treatment of African citizens living in China and frustration at Beijing’s position on granting debt relief to fight against the outbreak.
China has spent untold billions in Africa since its emergence as a global power, investing in its natural resources, underwriting massive infrastructure projects and wooing its leaders. The campaign has bought China friends and allies in multilateral institutions such as the United Nations and the World Health Organization, undermining the West’s once-reliable lock on the postwar world order while fueling its economy back home.
But that decadeslong quest for influence in Africa was gravely challenged last week when a group of disgruntled African ambassadors in Beijing wrote to Foreign Affairs Minister Wang Yi to complain that citizens from Togo, Nigeria and Benin living in Guangzhou, southern China, were evicted from their homes and made to undergo obligatory testing for Covid-19.
“In some cases, the men were pulled out of their families and quarantined in hotels alone,” the note, seen by POLITICO, said.
