Is The U.S. Preparing Military Actions Against The Venezuelan Regime Of Maduro?

Miami Herald: U.S. expands Navy presence in Caribbean. Is military action against Maduro more likely?

When President Donald Trump weighed the options earlier last year to address the political and humanitarian consequences of Nicolás Maduro’s tight grip on power in Venezuela, he realized his harsh rhetoric against the South American leader was not backed up by a show of force in the region.

That was corrected Wednesday, as Trump, surrounded by the country’s top officials, announced an expanded military presence near the Venezuelan shores that had been unseen for decades.

Secretary of Defense Mark Esper, National Security Council Director Robert O’Brien and Attorney General William Barr all said during the press conference that the additional military is meant to crack down on “counternarcotics operations,” but is also aimed at denying funds to Maduro and his closest allies, who have been recently indicted in the U.S. on drug trafficking charges.

WNU Editor: The White House is focused on the Covid-19 pandemic. Venezuela is important, but it is not a priority for the administration. Newsweek is saying that Pentagon officials have told them that the U.S. Navy expansion in the Caribbean is a diversion from the coronavirus crisis .... Trump Administration Used Venezuela Anti-Drug Operation to Distract from Coronavirus Crisis at Home, Officials Say (Newsweek). I have doubts about this Newsweek report. Short of a nuclear war, nothing is going to divert the American public's attention right now from the Covid-19 pandemic.

More likely is this:
US command must assume the very worst with regards to this virus and China.

Hence you being assets back home and tighten the eastern Pacific front

Hencw you fire the captain of one of the most important navy carriers because he couldn't keep his mouth shut over the severity of this situation on the US navy

"because he couldn't keep his mouth shut over the severity of this situation on the US navy"

You can go to sick call and still work that day.

What severe situation?

Maybe you as a troll have more information than me?

The clown car rides again.

This ensures Maduro will stay in power for another decade... at least.

Anonymous 5 PM is incorrect you wouldn’t flex to the east you would flex to the western Pacific. Nobody really thinks Trump is so foolish as to use a military distraction to try to win support at home.

Why post the Newsweek comment? More crap from the media! There is more going on then the Virus, we still need to manage the country.

Mike,

The US Naval interdiction ops may be a real big deal.

With the oil being sown so much and fellow dictatorships like Iran and Cubs not providing much support, this might be an attempt to cut another leg out from under the Venezuelan cabal.

The Venezuelan government really needs the drug money.

The Venezuelan government is mining gold via arsenic in environmentally unsound ways and smuggling it. Maduro is very desperate. He doesn't know where his next Bib Mac will come from.
