Breaking Defense: Hypersonics: DoD Wants ‘Hundreds of Weapons’ ASAP
“We want to deliver hypersonics at scale,” said R&D director Mark Lewis, from air-breathing cruise missiles to rocket-boosted gliders that fly through space.
WASHINGTON: The Pentagon has created a “war room” to ramp up production of hypersonic weapons from a handful of prototypes over the last decade to “hundreds of weapons” in the near future, a senior official said Wednesday. Those weapons will range from huge rocket-powered boost-glide missiles, fired from Army trucks and Navy submarines at more than Mach 10, to more compact and affordable air-breathing cruise missiles, fired from aircraft at a relatively modest Mach 5-plus.
“It isn’t an either-or,” said Mark Lewis, modernization director for Pentagon R&D chief Mike Griffin. “It isn’t rocket-boost or air-breathing, we actually want both, because those systems do different things.”

If you consider recent troop (naval air etc) movements by the US you see a clear pattern to strengthen the home front. Some pretexts like war against drugs were used recently to double eastern Pacific (us west coast) and Caribbean area. Pull back from Guam was signaling to China. The US knows cannot be sure - given what covid-19 did to US Navy readiness- that this is a first strike weapon by China. Or at least a move beyond a normal cold war with tens of thousands killed in the USA alone. And, we all know China did everything it could to make things worse. Withold information. Fake data. Not working and even contaminated test kits and equipment making the pandemic worse. Accusing several countries including Italy and the US to be the cause. Then accusing blacks of spreading the disease and denying entry in shops. On top hyperagressive pretending we are at fault.
