WASHINGTON/LONDON/DUBAI (Reuters) - As the United States pressed Saudi Arabia to end its oil price war with Russia, President Donald Trump gave Saudi leaders an ultimatum.
In an April 2 phone call, Trump told Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman that unless the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) started cutting oil production, he would be powerless to stop lawmakers from passing legislation to withdraw U.S. troops from the kingdom, four sources familiar with the matter told Reuters.
The threat to upend a 75-year strategic alliance, which has not been previously reported, was central to the U.S. pressure campaign that led to a landmark global deal to slash oil supply as demand collapsed in the coronavirus pandemic - scoring a diplomatic victory for the White House.

WNU Editor: If this was brought up a few years ago .... the U.S. cutting its military support to Saudi Arabia .... I would say that it would not happen. But we are living in a different world today, and Saudi Arabia's open "war" against American oil producers has changed this relationship. And while I still do not think the U.S. will cut-off its military support to Saudi Arabia, the fact that Washington is now openly thinking about it is unprecedented.

It has to be understood that "Washington" and President Trump are different things entirely and they are genetally in conflict with each other. Barring a miraculous turn of events Trump's time as POTUS is not going to last much longer. As such, pretty much anything he says us irrelevant right now and the Saudis know this.
Will "Washington" withdraw aid to Saudi Arabia? The pillars that enabled "Washington" to have a major influence in the world was the large American economy and the ability to run up vast deficits. After stupidly shutting down large segments of the US economy over the wuflu both of those things are in tatters meaning the ability of America to defend itself much less Saudi Arabia is problematic at best.
No doubt the Saudis know all of this and do not take threats by either Trump or "Washington" seriously and instead scoff at them. I'm pretty sure the Saudis already figured this out long before Trump or anyone else issued a threat and have already begun to make other arrangements to meet their defense needs. Essentially any US threat is meaningless and will be ignored.
The world is failing to understand the global order of "Before Covid" is shifting rapidly to "After Covid". Trump knows it and is pivoting fast. The Middle East, China, Russia, NATO better wake up fast.
The US global police department ie: "US Military" is no longer going to respond to theircalls for help. All the usual protectors are in Deep Sh** right now and will be there for a long time. Trump will throw them all under the bus to take care of the USA first.
Saudi especially, better wake up fast or Iran will be in the Kings compound quickly.
