HIT Consultant: Shortage of N95 Masks Top Concern for Hospitals with COVID-19 Patients

What You Should Know:

– Premier survey reveals as active COVID-19 spreads to new hotspots, hospitals should prepare for a 3X to 17X surge in supply-demand for personal protective equipment (PPE).

– Survey respondents treating COVID-19 patients say supply shortages and burn rates for PPE were among the biggest surprises and lessons learned.

– Hospitals ranked the supply of N95 respirators as their top concern with the average respondent had 23 days of N95 inventory on hand.

WNU Editor: This is why there is a shortage ....

.... active cases of COVID-19 create surge demand of 17X the typical burn rate for N95 respirators, 8.6X for face shields, 6X for swabs, 5X for isolation gowns and 3.3X for surgical masks.

About 80 percent of all PPE manufactured globally comes from Asia, where nations such as China, Taiwan, Thailand, India, and South Korea have all stopped exporting products, a situation expected to continue through for the unforeseen time, if not longer.

George H.W. Bush was very fond of China. He had been posted there as a diplomat (Chief of the U.S. Liaison Office to the People's Republic of China aka Ambassador more or less).

Somehow on one hand he can be fond of China and on the other hand since he is a Republican he is ipso facto a xenophobe, if you believe the liberal press.

I believe we should try to have good relation with the Chinese nation, however such things should be put on the back burner, if the current Chinese government had no interest in such things.

Obviously, it is Trump's fault that Europe and Canada do not have N95 masks, because "Orange man bad!"

The federal failure to order equipment until it was far too late to mitigate much of the damage is consistent with the denial and dysfunction that has plagued the administration’s response. And it has left other leaders scrambling to fill gaps, rather than coordinating to get aid to the parts of the country that need it the most.
States are scrambling to pick up the Trump administration’s slack

To understand the holes the federal government’s response has left for states to attempt to fill, look at what’s happening with ventilators.

On March 27, Trump pledged to ensure 100,000 ventilators would be available “within 100 days,” saying he’d use the Defense Production Act to order companies to step up production. That means they’d be available in late June, when experts project the virus will be past its peak in the US. And it’s unclear that it will happen; on April 2, FEMA officials said in a House Oversight and Reform Committee briefing that 100,000 ventilators would be available in late June “at the earliest.”

That delay has created dire situations in places like the state of New York, which has become an early epicenter of the outbreak, with more than 4,100 deaths and 122,000 confirmed coronavirus cases as of April 5.

And a Fredo comes in swinging at 8:50 AM with great haymakers.

If it happened across the board than obviously Orange Man Bad is not the common denominator.

But keep putting you 'intelligence' on display.

PS a rich place NY that keep s boasting of how rich it is by having Wall Street can't pay for its own gear?

California did.

He has to use middle school playground for you to understand it. Tragic but quite true.

California once had mobile hospitals and a ventilator stockpile. But it dismantled them

I spoke the truth. These things are affordable by rich states. Blue state like New Jersey boast of how rich they are. NJ boasts it has the most millionaires per capita.

So for all the richness, how come these rich blue states have jack?

I'll answer since all you can do is throw haymakers. Because Democrats always go about buying votes and so have no money for needed things.

States like Tennessee are attracting Wall Street firms. They can make a good pitch because of a connectivity of the internet. Just wait to 5G. Corona will just be the 3rd push.

The exburbs in NJ, NY, & CT will diminish. The tax base eroded. Democrat politicians won't understand and will keep increasing spending, which will start a death spiral causing more people to flee.

Just think, you might have to register Republican and flee to Florida. It will be for tax reasons, but you lay it at the door of health.
