SCMP: Beijing urges France to cancel contract to sell arms to Taiwan
* Chinese foreign ministry warns of damage to bilateral relations
* Deal includes upgrade of French-made weapons sold to the island in 1991 against Beijing’s wishes
China has called on France to cancel a weapons contract with Taiwan, warning that the deal with the self-ruled island could harm diplomatic relations between Beijing and Paris.
“We stand against foreign arms sales to Taiwan or having military and security exchanges with the island, and this stance is consistent and clear,” Zhao Lijian, a spokesman for the Chinese foreign ministry, said.
“China has expressed grave concerns to France. We once again urge France to abide by the one-China principle, cancel its plan to sell arms to Taiwan, and avoid damaging Sino-French relations.”

The blow back on China has started. France telling China to pound sand against their threats will play well in the USA too. If they need masks buy them from us, we seem to be making billions of them now........ Last night Trump in a mostly symbolic move pulled federal money out of all China investments in the TSP retirement plans.
More will come, China over time will become increasingly isolated from the west. Xi has terribly misplayed his hand by intentionally sending the Wuhan Virus around the world. They are to arrogant to see the damage they did to themselves and the world economy.
Who will buy their crap if the USA and EU are in a depression mode? Nobody. China's crap will pile up on the docks as their own layoffs begin.
China needs to tread carefully here. If they attempt to threaten French imports as retribution it may result in Taiwan operating a fleet of Scorpene subs. This would be a game changer.
