Avery Bower, American Spectator: Attacks on Abolitionist Statues Are Attacks on American Values
Protesters topple a statue of abolitionist Hans Christian Heg. Will they ever be satisfied?
A statue of Civil War hero and abolitionist Col. Hans Christian Heg in Madison, Wisconsin, was the latest to fall victim to the wave of vandalism and destruction across the country driven by protests over the death of George Floyd. A noted abolitionist, immigrant, and leader of a Wisconsin anti-slave-catcher militia, Heg gave his life in the Battle of Chickamauga to end slavery.
The toppling of Col. Hans Christian Heg’s statue is just another in a string of incidents across the country caused by protesters who seek to eradicate racism by destroying history. Initially in response to the slaying of George Floyd, these protests have spiraled into vandalism and the tearing down of Confederate statues. In recent weeks, protesters have moved on to tearing down and defacing statues of not racist, white supremacists, but noted abolitionists and champions of civil rights. In a vision where the past is open to revision, protesters have begun attacking those that embody America’s highest values.

WNU Editor: The above author is 100% correct. The attack on the statue of Matthias W. Baldwin two weeks ago is the one that got my attention (see video below).

Good! That's giving votes for Trump.
Rip them all down.
Opinion George and Martha Washington enslaved 300 people. Let’s start with their names.
Easy grader waits 24 hours until the blog post is so old that most readers and especially commenters/debaters will not see it or go back to it.
The passive aggressive tactics of someone, who is a poor debater or does not know much.
Easy Grader is making the typical liberal mistake on purpose. They are grading a 18th century person by late 20th century standards. If we grade Easy Grader by late 22nd century standards what would the verdict be?
Another thing. Words mean things. Enslave means something. Washington did not enslave those people. They were enslaved many of them before he was born, came to adulthood or married.
Funny how Easy grader spends so much time and effort on a topic like this and is essentially clueless as to the name of African enslavers. I know them. How come Easy Grader does not know them?
Prejudice?
Lazy?
Mentally incapable of forming thoughts?
Washington freed his slaves.
If Easy Grader had been born in the 18th century the go along get along dude would have had slaves for sure.
