The Independent: 'Not enough to say sorry': British firms should pay reparations for slave trade, say Caribbean nations
‘British public morality has caught up with its own institutional history of slavery,’ says head of 12-nation alliance
British financial institutions that benefited from slavery should go further than saying “sorry” for their role in slavery and commit to reparations by funding development in the Caribbean, an alliance of countries in the region has said.
The Lloyd’s of London insurance market apologised on Thursday for its “shameful” role in the 18th-century Atlantic slave trade and pledged to fund opportunities for black and ethnic minority people.
The Bank of England also apologised for the “inexcusable” ties former governors and directors had to slavery and said it was “committed to improving diversity”.

Update: 'Not enough to say sorry' for slavery links (BBC)
WNU Editor: There may be little (if any) legal basis for rep rations .... Slavery reparations: there's little legal basis to make companies pay for historic actions (Luke Moffett, The Conversation). But some companies are agreeing to it .... George Floyd protests force Britain to reckon with its role in slavery, leading some companies to pay reparations (Fortune).

Is anyone one going after the African tribes/families who were slave traders in Africa?
Actually America wants desperately to pay reparations to all African Americans regardless of how they were actually affected. The opening offer without any negotiation is 500K pet African American. This is easily achievable by Wednesday morning, 6/24/2020.
There is a catch though. The race wars must end. I don't tbink this'll happen. So they only have themselves to blame for their failure to jettison the race baiters from their midst. Otherwise reparations would've already happened long ago.

Nah, They get a free pass.
Not logical but based on liberal power structure and policy.
500K pet African American.
So Obama gets 250k being 1/2 white racist?
OK then make Germany pay for WW2
Make Japan pay for Pearl Harbour
Make China pay for bullying and landgrabbing and harassment (we are all traumatised)
Make blacks pay for making everyone feel guilty even if they had nothing to do with slave trade
Make Italy pay for the Roman empire
Oh and make China pay for Covid-that's the most pressing and current one. Funny how these other causes divert and distract from that. Isn't it. So coincidental how suddenly the BLM movement is financed big time by China. How convenient of a distraction
The stupidity on the left is only outmatched by the lack of spine by the right.
Trillions have been lost because of China. It goes on right now. Your people die right now. You are unemployed right now because of China. But go be distracted lol
Idiots
Also China still owes TRILLIONS in IP and patent and copyright theft.
But let's focus on century old slave trade and collective guilt so that China can keep killing and robbing us blind LOL
How about China pays the roughly 50 trillion they destroyed world wide and stole world wide and we use the money to spend on African Americans? :) just a thought
Interesting bit of history: Ethiopia practiced legal slavery until 1936.
Fascist Italy, who occupied Ethiopia in the 1930's, and who used chemical weapons against Ethiopians including dropping bombs of vesicant on water sources, and also committed the Addis Ababa massacre (possibly Italy's darkest fascist moment) also did the following:
"After the Second Italo-Ethiopian War, in which Ethiopia was occupied by the Fascist Italy of Benito Mussolini, the Ethiopian territories were proclaimed part of Italian East Africa (AOI) in 1936, with the capital of the AOI being established in Addis Ababa[4] and Victor Emmanuel III proclaiming himself Emperor of Ethiopia.
During the Italian rule, infrastructure to connect major cities, railways, public and private companies, and dams providing power and water were built; this along with the influx of Italian settlers and labourers, was the major cause of rapid urbanization growth. Also, the Italian government abolished slavery, a practice that existed in the country for centuries.[5]"
Emphasis on last sentence...that's right...71 years after Juneteenth, which in the United States saw the final pocket of slavery in the US abolished, Ethiopia continued it's own domestic practice of slavery until Mussolini's Italy forced them to stop.
And no, this doesn't make them "the good guys" (unless you were a slave in Ethiopia) but evidences that history - and the history of slavery - is weird...and in the words of Solzhenitsyn - truth is rarely pleasant.
