Covid-19 Coronavirus Pandemic Roars Back In The U.S.

CNBC: U.S. hits highest single day of coronavirus cases at 36,358, breaking April record

The U.S. broke its record for the highest coronavirus cases recorded in a single day, with 36,358 new positives reported on Wednesday, according to a tally by NBC News.

Wednesday’s cases top the previous highest day count from April 26 — the first peak of the pandemic in the U.S. — by 73 cases, according to NBC News tracking data. The World Health Organization saw its single-day record on Sunday with more 183,000 cases worldwide.

Health experts told NBC News on Monday that the resurgence in cases in Southern and Western states can be traced back to Memorial Day, when many officials began loosening lockdowns and reopening businesses.

As far as number of cases, comparing April to today is a comparison of apples to oranges. We are doing far more testing now.

The hospitalizations in Harris County TX near where I live are worrisome though. The surrounding areas are fkung fine in this regard and new cases there, while up slightly, aren't particularly worrisome but if Harris County reaches capacity they will need ti send ICU patients to the surrounding counties.

As far as loosening restrictions around Labor Day, there was no choice. To have kept the economy on lockdown for any longer would've resulted in such economic destruction that it would've been impossible to salvage the economy. Fre, if any, givernotrs actually waited to open and had to be dragged kicking and screaming to it because certain advisors were able to impart a brief spasm of common sense to them getting them to realize they had no choice but to open. Now fresh off of a record retail month some of these officials are licking their proverbial chops with glee at the prospect of another shut down!!

The only reason to consider a shutdown would be if a,local hospital system is at risk of being overwhelmed and even then it should only be as a VERY LAST RESORT and ONLY AFTER ALL OTHER OPTIONS HAVE BEEN CONSIDERED!! Unfortunately many officials seem to view shutdown as the first and only option that they cannot wait to implement.

The cure of the last shutdown was truly worse than the disease. We must not allow ourselves to be lured down that path again.

Top officials are quick to blame Memorial Day outings. They are overlooking the protests that they actively encouraged and supported. These happened within a week of each other and the protests involved far greater numbers of people in close quarters than all Memorial Day outings and business openings combined.

While I can't speak for other states, in southeast TX where I live the brutal heat of sumner is driving people indoors. During March and April the weather was relatively pleasant meaning more people were getting and staying outdoors. There seems to be a great deal of evidence that this virus circulates more easily indoors as viruses typically do. I think this is the main reason we are seeing the current rise in cases here. In other words, business reopenings are not a factor or they are a very minor one. Essentially another "lockdown" isn't going to help us except possibly at the margins and will crush certain economic segments beyond repair esentially rendering the "solution" worse than the disease itself.

While the government officials and health care professionals can benefit from this in the short term, if the economy is utterly destroyed there's no tax base to fund pretty much anything much less a healthcare system. Perhaps someone should explain such basics to them.

"Covid-19 Coronavirus Pandemic Roars Back In The U.S."

Unless you have a family member (that you actually visit) in a nursing home, work in a nursing home. or live in a nursing home, you would not know that there was death.

They tested the guy shot to death in the HOP/CHAZ post mortem and then listed cause of death are COVID.

It was a two-fer. The mayor gets to lower the homicide rate under her watch and the all DIMs get to blame Trump.

That is right. All other indicators are panic porn pushed for nefarious purposes.

But on top of the hospitalization and death rates, we need to look at what age group is dying and being hospitalized and what we want to do with it.

I think some Democrat governors are running out of opportunities to murder long term care residents or just running out of residents to murder. The New Jersey governor already murdered 10% of the nursing home residents in his state. The rest have to be stronger or been exposed already.

On the bright side for Democrats at least, they will take all the costs associated with caring for the elderly and now use them for their pet projects like CHOP, CHAZ, OWS, ANTIFA, BLM, 311....

I still don't know anyone that's tested positive for the virus...same with family and friends. It's like being 4 months into the zombie apocalypse and never seeing a zombie, I guess I should be thankful.
