Sandboxx: Fighter fuel range is the biggest threat to America’s Navy in the 21st century
After nearly two decades of counter-terror operations around the world, the United States military has recently begun shifting its focus away from this form of asymmetric warfare and back toward the potential for near-peer conflicts with nations like China or Russia.
Despite maintaining the most powerful military apparatus on the globe, this pivot won’t be without its challenges. Over the past 19 years, the United States military has funneled the majority of its funding into combat operations and new technologies that support the counter-terrorism endeavor. During this time, national opponents like China have had ample opportunity to observe the way America’s military operates, and find cost-effective methods of countering the U.S.’ most significant strengths.

WNU Editor: China's area-denial zone is about 2,000 kilometres, a problem for any US aircraft carrier strike group that may decide to venture into this zone. And even if the US Navy is able to extend the range of its aircraft so that its carriers can stay our of this area-denial zone, who is to say that China will develop weapon systems to extend it.

Well known for years, our carrier planes had double the rangein into the 1990's. However when Peace came to the world in 1991 and all wars ended forever (except for all the other wars) we went with great naval projects like the Littoral Combat Ship.
No one would challenge our dominance at sea. Our planes have less than half the range of the earlier generations, the primary reason we can't get our carriers in closerand are white elephants except to bomb ISIS.
Hmm, forgetting about how we fight wars are we? The B2’s will fly from Mid US to take out critical infrastructures to allow these carriers and smaller plans to operate. If you study how we started the Air war in both Iraq wars you will see this.

The China's area-denial zone could be a little bit over rated. After all it had never be tested and, at war, only the fire test is the one which is counting.
