Daily Mail: Tony Fauci warns about 'disturbing surge of infections' and tells the whole country 'it is imperative to wear a mask' in crowds - but says he has NOT told Trump to cover up or been ordered to slow down testing
* Dr. Anthony Fauci told Congress Tuesday that he's seeing a 'disturbing surge of infections' of the coronavirus
* He pointed a finger at Arizona, Texas and Florida, but added that he's seeing the trend in other states as well
* Fauci also said 'none of us have ever been told to slow down on testing,' in response to comments President Trump made Saturday night in Tulsa
* The president has been under fire for saying he told government officials to 'slow the testing down, please,' in order to have fewer U.S. coronavirus cases
* The White House has said that Trump was speaking 'in jest,' though he countered that claim Tuesday by saying, 'I don't kid'
* The president hasn't denied asking for testing to slow, instead pointing to the 25 million-plus tests the U.S. has conducted, calling them a 'double-edged sword'
* Fauci and other Congressional witnesses said their aim was to increase testing in order to get a handle on the 'community spread' of the coronavirus
Dr. Anthony Fauci told Congress Tuesday that he's seeing a 'disturbing surge of infections' of the coronavirus and said it's something he's 'quite concerned' about.
'Right now the next couple of weeks are going to be critical in our ability to address those surgings that we're seeing in Florida, in Texas, in Arizona, and in other states,' Fauci told members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee.
Fauci also denied he was ever asked by President Trump to slow down COVID-19 testing.
'I, as a member of the taskforce, and my colleagues on the taskforce to my knowledge - I know for sure - to my knowledge none of us have ever been told to slow down on testing,' Fauci testified Tuesday. 'That is just a fact.'
Fauci also wouldn't publicly scold the president for refusing to wear a mask.
