Mitch Prothero, Business Insider: Israel keeps blowing up military targets in Iran, hoping to force a confrontation before Trump can be voted out in November, sources say
* Iran has suffered a series of bombings and fires at military facilities in recent weeks, including at major missile-production and nuclear facilities.
* This is part of a wider campaign to damage Iran or even pressure it into military confrontation before the November election, when President Donald Trump could be voted out, sources told Insider.
* A former Israeli defense official told Insider it was common knowledge that at least some of the latest attacks in Iran were done by Israeli intelligence.
* An EU official also told Insider that they feared Israel was planning to provoke Iran into military confrontation "while Trump remains in office."
* Israel would not be able to engage in such high-pressure operations if Joe Biden, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, were in office, the EU official added.
Israel is involved in an extended campaign to pressure or damage Iran before President Donald Trump can be voted out of office in the November election, a former Israeli defense official and a current European Union intelligence official told Insider.
Iran has seen weekly incidents, including explosions at a missile-production facility on June 22; the Natanz nuclear facility, Iran's largest uranium-enrichment center, on July 2; and an important shipyard in the port city of Bushehr on Wednesday.

That is ridiculous!! 1.) If a hot wsr ensued between the US and Iran, it would still be going on during the election and Trump would lose anyway. Israel gains nothing by such an approach. 2.) Trump is trying to get reelected. At least we assume he us. As such, he's not going to take any such "bait." 3.)In a hot war with Iran and the Iranian leadership felt threatened, millions of Americans would die. 4.) In such a situation, there would be substantial blowback against a country who would manipulate the US into a war of this magnitude.
Isreal is in a fight for it's survival. Isreal is a serious country. Israel is not worried about who the US president is.
They may smile at our leaders and take our money but for the most part they are going to keep us at arm's length. Frankly with so many anti-Israel elements at all levels of the US government they do not trust us nor would they want us involved as the Iranians would instantly learn of about any operational plans that are shared with the US.
Israel and America have mutual enemies. We should wish them well and support where and when possible. The best way America can support Israel is to GET OUT OF ISRAEL'S WAY!!
Ingesting article. If they're watching CNN or pretty much any mainstream American news source even FOX they're going to be getting a misguided view of America. Even presidential elections have minimal bearing as his/her power is strictly limited. If a country bases it's policies based upon what they see on CNN or othermainstream news, they are going to get it wrong and, while the outcome of a presidential election, may tell us something it is not a be all end all and certainly not worth devoting a large amount of time to.
The notion put forth by the EU Intel official that the Israeli actions are high pressure/low strategy is intersecting. "Western" Intel is almost as incompetent as US (un)intelligence. As such, it's very likely that they have no clue about overall Israeli strategy.
"Israel is not worried about who the US president is."
So many lies. You would think spy school would afford one better training than to make rookie mistakes.
"For a head of government to visit the White House and not pose for photographers is rare. For a key ally to be left to his own devices while the President withdraws to have dinner in private was, until this week, unheard of. Yet that is how Binyamin Netanyahu was treated by President Obama on Tuesday night, according to Israeli reports on a trip viewed in Jerusalem as a humiliation, The Times reported Friday."

Not to mention Netanyahu going to Moscow, because Obama was an idiot.
Biden would be Obama's 3rd term. The husk of Biden will sign anything. No one is home.
The author of the piece says the EU official is being "blunt" when he says there is "a reason" why they follow CNN and US elections. Actually if they are following CNN to find out what's actually going on in America they aren't particularly bright. Looking to any mainstream news source as a staple for one's analysis of America will lead to false conclusions which inevitably leads to poor decision making.
As to following US elections, the usual EU policy is hostility towards America which wouldn't be expected to change regardless who POTUS is. Also, in terms of alliances, overall economic size, and population the EU holds a decisive edge over America and hostility towards America is one of the few things they all agree on. Essentially there isn't much any POTUS can actually do that's going benefit or hurt any EU member in any significant way. So from a policy perspective spending much time or effort focusing on any US election makes little sense. Now if they are following US elections with the idea of punishing us if we don't vote the way they want us to then perhaps following our elections would make sense.
"You would think spy school...." I've never attended such a school. Frankly as business person I've got to be quite a bit better than US (un)intelligence. A school such as that would have no benefit to me and would be a colossal waste of my valuable time and resources.
Now as for the private dinner situation, I have a different take on this. Benjamin Netanyahu came to the White House to get something. He likely got what he wanted and is not going to waste time on petty things like photo ops. With the US government full of anti-Israel elements combined with a media that is largely hostile to Israel president Obama would likely have seen huge downside risks in such a photo op with an Israeli leader combined with little to no upside potential. Essentially a photo op was contrary to the interests of both parties so neither of them wanted it.
If "no one is home," this is actually a great opportunity for Israel. American meddling has had a huge cost for Isreal. With our leadership not "home" Israel has freer reign. If they were making decisions based upon our electoral situation, they'd be laying low hoping for a Biden win. Engaging in their current activities risks a broader war which can create risks that may undermine their preferred outcome which is a Biden victory.
In actuality, Israel is in a desperate battle for its survival against very powerful adversaries. It is in this context with which they make their strategic decisions. US elections aren't going to be an important factor them. The analysis put forth in this article is about as nonsensical as something US (un) intelligence would come up with.
I think I do remember Netanyahu going to Moscow but it likely had nothing to do with Obama. There are a number of reasons why he might do this. 1.) Russia is a very powerful country whose head of state is arguably the most powerful person in the world. Maintaining reasonable relations with such a country is going to be crucial for a country in Israel's position. 2.) As I understand it, there are large numbers of Israelis who moved to Israel from Russia. This would mean that many Isrealis likely have deep ties to Russia which would flow both ways. In this context, this type of diplomacy would make sense for both leaders. 3.) I could go on but suffice it to say Obama being an "idiot" or Obama in general wasn't a factor. For what it's worth, Obama is many things but he's not an idiot.
Anon,
I was eating when I read your comment..."husk of Biden..." I got through but
"No one is home" got me before I could swallow. No harm done. Easily cleaned up and I'm still chuckling. Great one.
Millions of Americans would die???
No, it shows again how impotent and incompetent Iran is. If Iran was capable of a military response to Israel or anyone else for that matter, they would have acted long ago.

I would fully expect ongoing espionage from Israel against Iran. Enough Americans are exhausted from Trump's never-ending scandals, incompetencies, and foreign policy failures (should I name them?). So exhausted that Biden will be elected. It won't affect Islamic World situations much. But Russia, China, and North Korea are seeing the good times end. U.S. alliances with old friends and India will improve in time. Netanyahu's time is coming to a close. Israel is still Fortress America in the Mideast. Biden has a good relationship with Israelis.
