Is The U.S. And Israel Waging A Series Of Short-Of-War Clandestine Strikes Against Iran?

New York Times: Long-Planned and Bigger Than Thought: Strike on Iran’s Nuclear Program

Some officials say that a joint American-Israeli strategy is evolving — some might argue regressing — to a series of short-of-war clandestine strikes.

As Iran’s center for advanced nuclear centrifuges lies in charred ruins after an explosion, apparently engineered by Israel, the long-simmering conflict between the United States and Tehran appears to be escalating into a potentially dangerous phase likely to play out during the American presidential election campaign.

New satellite photographs over the stricken facility at Natanz show far more extensive damage than was clear last week. Two intelligence officials, updated with the damage assessment for the Natanz site recently compiled by the United States and Israel, said it could take the Iranians up to two years to return their nuclear program to the place it was just before the explosion. An authoritative public study estimates it will be a year or more until Iran’s centrifuge production capacity recovers.

Another major explosion hit the country early Friday morning, lighting up the sky in a wealthy area of Tehran. It was still unexplained — but appeared to come from the direction of a missile base. If it proves to have been another attack, it will further shake the Iranians by demonstrating, yet again, that even their best-guarded nuclear and missile facilities have been infiltrated.

Although Iran has said little of substance about the explosions, Western officials anticipate some type of retaliation, perhaps against American or allied forces in Iraq, perhaps a renewal of cyberattacks. In the past, those have been directed against American financial institutions, a major Las Vegas casino and a dam in the New York suburbs or, more recently, the water supply system in Israel, which its government considers “critical infrastructure.”

WNU Editor: The New York Times is convinced that the U.S. and Israel are waging a series of clandestine strikes against Iran. I am not sure about that, but someone is definitely dedicating a lot of time to cause damage to critical Iranian structures and programs.

Israel might be. The US isn't involved. US (un)intelligence is going to be pretty much useless to Israel in identifying targets, getting past Iranian defenses or pretty much anything else.

As for the US military, we are led by clones of general "we can't be distracted by a few law breakers" Mattis. These people don't even understand our own country. There's no way they can possibly understand Iran especially when they're being fed information by our (un)intelligent information by our combination of political hacks and incompetent boobs who we are cursed with.

Obviously Israel will take our money but in the interests of their security they'll Obviously keep us out of any policy decisions they make. The US government is filled at all levels especially at the top with anti-Israel elements. Any information they might reveal to us would be instantly revealed to Iran. Obviously we aren't involved in any way. Our best approach is going to be to GET OUT OF ISRAEL'S WAY!!

"There is no friendship between peoples but only convergence of interest". I don't like that but that is very true. That said, why not association of USA and Israel for tackling Iran?

Isreal can't trust the USA and this has been true for a long time even before the current situation. Israel may want an "association" long enough to take some money but they aren't naive enough to know who they are dealing with. Fortunately Trump has been smart enough to largely support Isreal and most importantly of all STAY OUT OF THEIR AFFAIRS!! Of course his "peace plan" was a bit silly.

To achieve peace either cut off all support to the Palestinians or make their support highly conditional like that which Israel receives and the parties are on equal footing. Once the patties are on equal footing, perhaps the Palestinians will be willing to negotiate in good faith on a just end to the conflict.
