We’ve gotten our first glimpse of the U.S. Navy’s new MQ-25 Stingray tanker drone fitted with its underwing refueling pods.

U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth, an Illinois Democrat, posted photos of the carrier-launched drone after paying a visit to Boeing’s test facility at MidAmerica Airport near St. Louis in mid-July.

The photos are a reminder of the profound changes coming to the Navy’s carrier air wings. After years of work and billions of dollars of investment, the fleet is close to restoring the long-distance striking power it gave up when it retired its A-6 bombers and F-14 fighters.
