Daily Mail: Covid-19 pandemic is 'getting worse' as number of cases has DOUBLED to nearly 12million in just six weeks, warns World Health Organization boss
* Dr Tedros, director general of the UN agency, said the virus is not under control
* More than 11.8million cases of coronavirus have now been reported to the WHO
* Pandemic is currently being driven by growing outbreaks in the US and Brazil
The World Health Organization has warned the coronavirus pandemic has still not reached its peak – as lockdown measures are relaxed to make international travel easier.
Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, director general of the UN agency, said the virus is not under control 'in most of the world' and is 'getting worse'.
He revealed the total number of cases of coronavirus worldwide has doubled in the last six weeks, with almost 12million confirmed infections since the pandemic first began in China.
The pandemic - which has seen 550,000 people die worldwide - is now being driven by outbreaks in the US, Brazil and India.
There are now concerns that Africa - which was spared from the first six months of the crisis - is seeing rocketing numbers of cases. Infections there have risen by 24 per cent in a week to more than half a million, with almost half in South Africa.

NYPD Places Limits on Retirements After 'Troubling' 400 Percent Surge
It’s gotten so bad that the department is now limiting the number of officers who can file for retirement. The pension office has been so overwhelmed that they are only accepting 40 applications a day.
“That’s why you don’t see like 100 a day, because they are only doing like 35 to 40 a day, by appointment.”
But in New York and elsewhere, radical politicians like Mayor de Blasio and spineless department leaders have left their officers hanging out to dry, too frightened of the mob to stand up for them, calculating the political cost of supporting them.
Bill de Blasio is an American politician who has served as the 109th mayor of New York City since 2014. A member of the Democratic Party ...
Ramp up testing, ramp up contact tracing as we are doing, and of course the pandemic is "getting worse." Oh well should the political situation change someone can easily make cases and deaths fall dramatically and very quickly. Simply taper off of contract tracing, don't hand out tests like they are candy, and remove the incentives from the system to classify deaths as COVID-19 even though they might not be. It looks like the beatings are going to continue until either the morale improves or those doing the beating are driven from power themselves.
