Reuters: Trump privately discussing replacing Defense Secretary Esper after election

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Donald Trump has privately discussed with advisers the possibility of replacing Defense Secretary Mark Esper after the November election following a growing number of differences between them, a source familiar with the internal debate said on Wednesday.

The source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the two men were “not in a good place” but that Trump did not intend to move on Esper until voters have rendered their judgment on a second Trump term on Nov. 3.

Esper, a former Army secretary, is respected by Republicans and Democrats as a steady hand at the Pentagon during a turbulent administration that has seen Trump repeatedly draw the military into hot-button domestic political issues, including the border wall with Mexico.

But Trump was troubled by Esper’s opposition to invoking the Insurrection Act to deploy active-duty forces to quell civil unrest that broke out in June after the death of George Floyd, a Black man who was in police custody in Minneapolis.

Very, very sad. Esper is a marvelous guy. That's very bad for "only" sensitive human problem which make something like that. Sad. How many Secretaries of Defense has Trump had?

Esper is part of the problem. The US has a low scale insurgency. It is not being addressed. The insurgency is one of the manifestations of a political civil war.

Factions can fight at the ballot box over policy. But people are using legal and illegal immigration, dark money, and funded political disruption and terror to get their way.

Political eras of the United States

Trump does not want to see the 6th political era slide into something worse. He is fighting it, so people like Esper, Mattis and others are fighting him.

Tell me how you can have 3.7 million graduates a year and bring in 3 million legal and illegal immigrants for all the 2 million new jobs.

Occupy Wall street never went ta away. There were subsequent Occupations that were smaller and were covered less. Antifa was already back on the streets in February in Portland if check on the typical sparse Americanesque reporting. The last big blow out in Portland had been 2016 when they tried to shutdown ICE.

George Floyd was an excuse. If not him then someone else.

I wish the cops had patted Floyd on the back and let him go, so he could have seized up behind the wheel and hit some liberal Minnesotans with his SUV. That asshole and multiple health condition and was taking increasing number and amount of drugs of unknown potency,. Between that and his stupidity his time was up this year on e way or another.

Democrats, Soros and others are having a field day fielding their rabble. It is no different than Roman Senators telling their clients to beat up or murder people.

Tell me there is something new under the sun.
