Japan Marks The 75th World War II Surrender Anniversary In A Solemn Ceremony

Japan Times: Japan marks 75th surrender anniversary in solemn ceremony thinned by pandemic

Japan on Saturday marked the 75th anniversary of its surrender in World War II with a somber ceremony that was scaled back by the COVID-19 pandemic.

At the annual government-sponsored event held in Nippon Budokan Hall in Tokyo, about 540 participants paid tribute to the war dead and prayed for peace.

Efforts to reduce infections from the novel coronavirus loomed large over much of the ceremony: Less than a tenth of the total from last year attended, seating was arranged to maintain social distancing, attendants were required to wear masks and singing was prohibited during the national anthem.

As the clock struck noon, the attendees fell silent for a minute to remember the estimated 3 million Japanese who perished in the conflict.

1 million still missing! Noting the reverence in Japan for older family members this is quite the story. Especially as those who recall the missing when they were alive pass on.

The childish and self centered ignorance of "woke" types wouldn't even get started in Japan being they are so against anything with a history that doesn't meet their "enlightened" standards, whatever they are.

Did 1 million Japanese soldiers fit on Pacific Islands, Ppapua New Guinea & The Phillipines?

How many of the Japanese War dead were killed by Chinese, Indonesians, Vietnamese, Filipinos & Russians?

Outside of Japan the Nagasaki/Hiroshima get top billing over this ceremony? If it does inside Japan, who is fooling who.

I didn't know that too, and that is so huge!

anon 12:59,

Nothing personal but I wouldn't call you overly woke.
The Japanese had a navy that experienced many casualties and their troops fought all over Asia in addition to the countries you mention.
