Japan's prime minister Shinzo Abe bowed in apology today as he announced his resignation on health grounds after a record eight years in power.
Abe, 65, revealed he had suffered a relapse of a chronic bowel condition - saying he had 'lost a lot of my energy and strength' and would need regular medical treatment that would prevent him from tackling the coronavirus crisis.

Abe does not look well. He has the look of the quintessential Japanese "salaryman". Who fits the stereotype of the workaholic Japanese man who smokes 2 packs a day and drinks heavily every night after work. Little or no exercise and poor diet. Now compound that with the stress of being the PM.
I hope he is able to rest and recover.
Class act. An apology, not blame directed at another.
A lot of Japanese including my wife and I don't agree with a lot of his policies, but there is a general consensus that he has made a better PM than most, and that the next PM won't be as good as him. I hope he can recover well once the stress of being a PM is taken off his shoulders.
