SCMP: Taiwan sends marines to reinforce South China Sea outpost amid reports of major PLA landing drill
* Military source says around 200-strong force has been sent to the Pratas Islands following reports PLA was planning large-scale simulated invasion
* Mainland China has been steadily boosting its presence in the disputed waters, where a number of other countries have claims
Taiwan’s military has sent a marine company to reinforce the garrison on a small outpost in the South China Sea amid reports that the People’s Liberation Army was planning a simulated attack on the islets.
A military source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the navy had sent a company of around 200 marines to reinforce the coastguards stationed on the Pratas Islands, which are known as the Dongsha Islands in Chinese.
“The marines left for the Pratas about a week ago and will remain there on a short-term rather than a long-term basis,” the source said, adding the posting was in line with the military’s off-site training operations.

WNU Editor: Seizing these islands would be a strategic victory for China. But this deployment of Taiwanese marines is a message to China that Taiwan will defend its territory.

I agree with you and it also bring a few questions to the PLA: what will be the reaction of America and, if success, will it be the end of the confrontation? We usually know the beginning,but nobody knows the end.
Jac. True. Also it's not just the USA the Chinese, in their endless wisdom we are ought to believe in, have managed to be in strong conflict with
Australia (just a week or so ago they raided the house of a politician the Chinese managed to compromise. He was spouting pro CCP propaganda. He's no longer a politician obviously and will likely see years and years in a prison
Vietnam, at almost war for years over resource rich disputed areas in front of the Vietnam coast. And the oh so smart "But ancient map proves world belongs to us" argument didn't go over well with the vietnamese, who hate the Chinese for their bullying in the area. They're also for renaming the south China sea as the basin includes also Vietnam which is just wrong.
The Indians in the west of China just got raised by cowardly Chinese. Despite having the element of surprise on their side, the Chinese didn't look good. But they have killed 20 Indians at the border in cold blood using hammers, rocks and steel bars. You can imagine that the oh so smart Chinese leadership is also very good at understanding human nature and how much we all appreciate cowardly attacks like that. But CNN calls the Chinese also mostly peaceful :)
There's further conflict with Indonesia, Philippines, obviously Japan and the Chinese have even managed to annoy Putin who deals with even Iran. So Putin told them publicly to "take a hint" when it comes to those conflicts
There's only the typical tyrants in China's corner. North Korea and Iran.
So yeah.
Taiwan may be a small NATION(!) hehe but the Chinese will get a very bloody nose if things don't go well and easily a dozen countries in the area hope that China will lose and some might join in
And if the US attacks any NATO member the cost will be even higher
On top the entire World is pissed at their shooting, theft in the trillions, concentration camps, sterilization programs, and not even to speak of the trillions of economic loss they caused, then exploited and insulted us all on top to not complain.
The Chinese owe the world tens of trillions for the death and destruction they caused. The theft and interest on top.
I think Gordon Chang will be proven right. China is about to collapse. Just think of all the debt they have. Their housing bubble. All the industries leaving.
Before the Wuhan virus was released China had its worst economic year in 70 years losing the trade war with the USA which had its best 3 years in a row.
So you tell me. Do you think that virus was an accident or part of a Fail Forward strategy? All these empty cities built. Ask the GDP data faked. The stock was faked. The gold was faked.
I think the world will be surprised. But trillions and trillions are at stake, so billions are pumped into media and research and influencers, lobbyists to fake it yet again. And, or media and elite is so dumb and uninformed, they might just keep falling for it. And then the Chinese century despite it all might occur. But I think not. Too many industries have left. Money leaves Hong Kong now too. The Chinese buying spree will be repossessed once people understand what happened
