Reuters: Belarus to close border with Poland and Lithuania - Lukashenko
MOSCOW (Reuters) - Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko, dogged by weeks of protests over a disputed election, said on Thursday that Belarus needs to close its borders with Poland and Lithuania, and strengthen border controls with Ukraine.
Belarus is in a political crisis following an Aug. 9 presidential election marred by vote-rigging allegations that led to mass demonstrations against Lukashenko, who has been in power since 1994. Lukashenko says he won re-election fairly and is the victim of a smear campaign by the West.
“We are compelled to withdraw our troops from the streets, have half our army on guard and close our state border with the West, first of all with Lithuania and Poland,” Lukashenko said in a speech at a women’s forum in Minsk. “To our greatest regret, we are compelled to strengthen our border with brotherly Ukraine.”

Alexander Lukashenko NEEDS TO GO. The opposition leader seems to be competent. But the picture of 3 women is scary. It reminds me of the picture of the Northern European (Germanic) defense secretaries. All boobs and not defense no viable armies.
A picture of four female defense ministers goes viral. Is that progress?
For NATO, a first: 5 female defense ministers
There is 2 contrary ideas to management. One is that if you are a good manager, you can manage anything. You can learn the particulars of a new industry fast after you get there. The other is that you have to grow up in the industry to be an effective manager to know the in and outs of the industry and plus you pick up managerial skill.
Von der Leyen's has a curious cursus honorum. She went from Minister of Labour and Social Affairs to Minister of Defence. Then she was kicked upstairs to President of the European Commission. We all know that the German Army, Navy, and Air Farce are doing oh so well.
The picture of the Belarus politicians gives me the willies.
