Global Times editorial: PLA Friday drills not warning, but rehearsal for Taiwan takeover: Global Times editorial
The Eastern Theater Command of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) is conducting a real-combat military exercise near the Taiwan Straits starting Friday. Taiwan media reported that starting 7:16 am, aircraft of the PLA were approaching Taiwan island from four directions: the southwest, west, northwest and north of the island. Taiwan reportedly made 22 broadcasts to "dispel" the PLA aircraft, and the island used "airspace" instead of "air zone" or "air defense identification zone" in its broadcasts. The "Taiwan defense department" said 18 Chinese aircraft appeared in the Taiwan Straits, with some crossing the "middle-line."
From our point of view, the PLA is still restrained. Every time a high-ranking US official visits Taiwan, the fighter jets of the PLA should be one step closer to the island. If the US secretary of state or secretary of defense comes to Taiwan, the PLA should fly its aircraft over the island and conduct exercises above it. The missiles we test should also fly over Taiwan, even its "Presidential Office Building." If Taiwan authorities continue to act aggressively, such scenarios will definitely come true.

WNU Editor: China state media is also bluntly saying that if the US secretary of state or secretary of defense comes to Taiwan, the Chinese will be flying warplanes over Taiwan .... If the US secretary of state or secretary of defense comes to Taiwan, the PLA should fly its aircraft over the island and conduct exercises above it. If this keeps up will we find out what an F-22 can do? Or quietly sink a chinese fishing fleet?
I think the yellow peril is gambling Trump will be hamstrung with election challenges and that Americans will not care to defend the Nationalist government hence do nothing but huff and puff.

This is really funny. Hold a drill and advertise it as a rehearsal; what are we to assume this is their attack plan? Why did Taiwan detect all the planes....just propaganda folks.
On a more serious note, I don’t like the fact that they keep pushing the boundaries, this is the real issue here and at what point does Taiwan fire back. I say sooner rather than later else they (Taiwan) puts themselves at Hugh risk.
If go to high school with a kid and they threaten you and have started fights with you in the hallway between class and made other threats and if they continually do this and the principal and teachers do nothing, guess what? One day in school or out of school you haul off, start it and beat them down and maybe curb stomp them.
At some point you do not let the threats and actual incidents roll like water off a duck's back.

If they deliberately order their pilots to overfly Taiwan.....and a manpad or two is fired off, are they going to shoot back with a US cabinet member on the island?
