Korea Herald: US fired missiles in 2017 to demonstrate it could target NK leader Kim: Woodward

The US came close to nuclear war with North Korea in 2017, launching a precision missile to demonstrate to Pyongyang that it could strike any target, including North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, according to a new book by Washington Post journalist Bob Woodward.

In response to Pyongyang test-firing its first intercontinental ballistic missile capable of reaching the US on July 4, 2017, retired Gen. Vincent Brooks, who headed US Forces Korea from 2016 to 2018, ordered troops to fire a tactical missile that traveled 300 kilometers before dropping into the East Sea, according to Woodward’s “Rage,” a revelatory book about the presidency of Donald Trump set for release Tuesday.

“That was the exact distance between the launching point of the US missile and the North Korean missile test site, as well as a tent where satellite photos showed Kim Jong-un was watching the missile launch,” Woodward wrote, according to excerpts obtained by Yonhap News Agency.

Update: In 2017, U.S. fired missile to show target precision to N. Korea: Woodward book (Yonhap News Agency).

WNU Editor: It is under a paywall, but in 2017 with tensions very high the U.S. brushed up on plans to attack North Korea using 80 nuclear weapons .... US reviewed plans to use nuclear weapons on North Korea, strike leadership (NK News). This is the first time that I am reading the specifics on what the US would do in the event of a war against North Korea. 80 nuclear weapons would be devastating, but probably necessary to make sure North Korea does not have the capability to launch a nuclear missile strike against the U.S..

He’s made dialogue, better than any president in the past and showed he’s not a knee trembling fool

Agreed 6:50. An attempt was made. That's progress. It does take two to tango. Maybe in the future more progress will be made.

It achieved zero except buy Kim time and recognition as a player on the big boys table that he always craved.
What progress was made?

what progress could be made? The Norks have nukes and missiles that can reach the major cities of Korea, Japan and now the East Coast. Even an overwhelming first strike isn't a guarantee that a nuke won't land on Tokyo or Los Angeles. At least Trump avoided an escalation

Fazman what big boy table? He's more isolated than ever.. I don't see any country welcoming this murderer aside from China
