The U.S. Navy has identified China as the top strategic threat to the United States, according to Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Michael Gilday, who cautioned the balance of maritime power could shift in the next 10 years.

“Specifically, China is the strategic threat to this country,” Gilday said during Defense One’s State of the Navy event on Tuesday.

That’s why the Navy is crafting a new maritime strategy — in tandem with the Marine Corps and the Coast Guard. Gilday first disclosed that the document was in the works in March during the WEST 2020 conference, according to multiple media reports.

They may "agree." The question then becomes how do we handle "the strategic threat." Trump's approach might seem to be confrontational. Perhaps his approach might be best.

Perhaps it isn't. Depending upon which Forbes analysis we consult Xi and Putin are the first and second most powerful people in the world. It's reasonable to assume this would extend to the countries they lead. While the Forbes anakysis may be in error, I do believe it represents a serious analysis.

While Americans may believe China is the major strategic threat, this doesn't necessarily mean they will vote Trump. The question may be who they think ie most likely to make peace. After all events of these last 2+ decades have turned Americans virulently anti-war. Truth is I have no idea how the election will come out. My "gut" says Biden will win. I hope my gut is wrong. My heart says Trump wins whereas the brain says Biden. When the heart and the brain conflict, it's probably best to go with the brain.

A"threat"????
China has cost the West about 25 trillion over the last 30 years. That's 10 times the cost of all "real" wars in Afghanistan and Iraq combined

A threat.

Right.

Wake me up when your realise you're at war with an enemy that gives no fck about your threat assessment or feelings

China has declared war on us and you better get your assessments right and start defending and ideally go on the offense and credibily so

And, importantly, there needs to be a message at home, to all business and other leaders: side with China and you're a traitor. This is a fight for our lives and heritage and China spots on both of them. Has done so for years. Now is time to spit back and worse
