Lawmakers Are Upset Over US Defense Secretary Mark Esper Answers On The Military Role In This Election

Defense Secretary Mark Esper sidestepped lawmakers’ questions about potential military involvement in the election, saying only that the military will follow the law. 

Esper was responding to questions for the record from Reps. Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.) and Mikie Sherrill (D-N.J.) that the pair submitted to him after a House Armed Services Committee hearing in July. Slotkin and Sherrill, who released Esper’s written answers Tuesday, asked the secretary if he would refuse an order to send active-duty troops to the polls on Election Day and whether he would commit to facilitating a peaceful transition of power.

Doubly so since the Chairman of the Joint chiefs of Staff was very clear in his answer .... Gen. Mark Milley Says The Military Plays 'No Role' In Elections (NPR). As to what is my take. No one in authority like Defense Secretary Esper is going to answer politically motivated "what if" questions like that one. Always excpect the standard line that we will follow the law.
