Two public health experts advising President-elect Joe Biden on COVID-19 rejected the idea of “lockdowns” like those seen in the spring to bring down rising case numbers.
Those lockdowns also led to skyrocketing unemployment as businesses were closed down.
Celine Gounder, who sits on Biden’s COVID-19 task force, said on CNBC Friday the panel supports “targeted” closures of businesses that are actually leading to the spread of the virus, including indoor dining.

WNU Editor: If the US finds itself with over 500,000 cases a day. Thousands dying each day. Hospitals crammed with patients in the hallways. You can take this to the bank. The country is going to be shut down. At current projections the US will be there at the beginning of February.

All I see are nursing home residents dying with a sprinkling of 70, 80 and 90 year old with co-morbidities outside of nursing homes, who are dying.
We are not passing the plate around work for coworkers, who are dead. We are learning the names of all the nursing homes with in a 50 mile radius.
If this keeps up, social security will show surplus or go out of business.
WU is is rightly worried due to age of his immediately family and/or his is a spy. Which is okay. I call my spouse a spy from time to time.
Do a relief surface graph.
Z axis: death rate or deaths due to covid.
x axis: age group in 5 years increments (or less; but definitely not 10 year increments.)
y axis: co-morbidities by raw number of some sort of weighted average.
Plot that and then tell us that we should all get worried that the world will end tomorrow.
We could group people according to health condition and use Bayesian statistics.
Calculate the life-years lost. Probably less than 1 year per person. It might be as low as 2 or 3 months per person.
Black death wiped out 1/3rd to 1/2 of Europe. This virus will not do 10% of that. It is not going to be 5% of that.
There will be more people living in America in 2021 and 2022 than in 2020. Biden will pack people in like it is the Tokyo subway
“He doesn’t trust where the vaccines are coming from,” Trump went on to say about Cuomo. “[He] will have to let us know when he’s ready for it, otherwise we, we can’t be delivering it to a state that won’t be giving it to its people, immediately. And I know many, I know the people in New York very well, I know they want it. So the governor will let us know when he’s ready,”

" As OregonLive reports, however, statewide hospitalizations—currently at an all-time high—number just a few hundred. That figure comes nowhere close to stressing the number of hospital beds in Oregon."
Taking care of viral chain reactions when hundreds of thousands of illegals flood in each year is impossible.
Those illegals are going to work form home right?
Humanities Professors are utter and complete morons. At least, if you hired a rapper of the street to be a prof, they could put out rap songs and a books of poetry and get published more than once a year for thirty years.

Oh looky here, Parrot posted the above.
Apparently, you can't teach a parrot to read graphs.
The economy revived without the governors of Washington. Oregon, California, Michigan, New York cooperating.

Name calling? Nay properly called.
English departments are teaching critical race theory. Lay aside for a moment, if CRT is good or bad. I suppose they (i.e full, assistant and associate professors and other grand poobahs) must have to hone in on the work of the psychology and sociology departments, because they are not teaching very much English.
What I saw at uni was an associate English prof out out her shingle and making an upwards move from associate English propagandist to head of the nascent Department of the Women's Studies (population 1 prof). It was so sweet. The cancer had stpread form the premier public state institution to to Sate U.! HAZZAH! The Department office was right next to the English Department office in what use to be a broom closet.
Meanwhile a retired, old guy 50-ish to 70-ish came onto campus looking for 5 to 10 people wanting to learn olde English. He was desperate.
No, I do not think much of English Department in most of America. There is no reason why I should.
Why not just close down the areas where the virus is out of control? The US is way too big a country to try and cram down a one size fits all solution. This has to be handled locally.
Somebody doesn't like the truth, eh clerky.

You're spot on and such actions should only be taken as A VERY LAST RESORT. Unfortunately this government has often implemented these as a very first resort without even considering any other alternatives.
The area where I live in Montgonery County TX has never come close to hospitals being at risk of being overwhelmed and our cases have held relatively constant. As such, there would be no reason for us to shut down. The decision to allow states and localities to be in charge of their responses was a good decision on the part of the Trump Administration. Because he reigned in the "one size fits all" Fauci approach the US still has some semblance of an economy left!! In contrast, the Euros implemented all parts of cult leader Fauci's strategy in all its forms and are no better off than we are.
When Trump wanted to move forward tepidly with reopening, it was established emphatically that he lacked the authority to do this. As such, Biden doesn't even have the authority to order a complete national shutdown.
Of course doing such a thing would be a huge gift to China. Perhaps that's the plan.
Poster,
Don't worry they'll find (make up)the authority.

You are probably right. Hopefully if it comes to that SCOTUS will intervene up block them. Of course much of this is contingent on the Republicans retaining the Senate and preventing a packing of SCOTUS. Then again Trump could still prevail. I'd estimate those odds at about 40% which is higher than the media presents.
Then assuming team Biden gets past this they will need to enforce the lockdowns. Some states such as TX, FL, and a few others aren't going to cooperate. I suppose they could order the military in and they could cut federal funding. The loss of federal funding is far less bad than the costs of further lockdowns. Of course watching the likes of Mattis and Esper they'd have no issues with ordering the troops in to break heads and enforce lockdowns. What would the troops do in the face of such orders?
The virus is bad. The lockdowns are MUCH worse.
I’m looking for a quality packing service around the Chennai area - can anybody help?
