The Navy and Marine Corps are only “marginally” capable of meeting America’s national security needs, according to a new scorecard from The Heritage Foundation.

With an eye on near-peer competitors like China and Russia, as well as regional threats like Iran and North Korea, the organization graded each branch of the U.S. military based on its ability to complete its mission.

The report graded all the military branches based on capacity, capability and readiness on a scale ranging from “very weak” to “very strong.”

Given how much ships and subs cost these days, I'm surprised they can afford anything.

This isn't a problem if you scale back the missions to those that represent American interesrs. In other words, if the pointless and fruitless military operations around the world that not only don't advance our interests but undermine them and bring about a massive risk of blowback are ended, then we don't need as much. Countries such as Canada, Australia, and New Zealand only spend a fraction of the amount on their militaries that the US spends yet these countries are more secure than America is. Myself and nany more Americans would like to see our foreign become more like New Zealand, Canada, and Australia.
