"President-elect Joe Biden’s national security team is likely to consist of people who served under the Obama administration. Some liberals are worried about their party’s return to its pre-Trump national security instincts, which they consider outdated."

Everyone working for the New York Times should be warehoused in a long term care facility.

A) instincts?

B) outdated?

A) There is nothing nebulous about it. Using the word instincts is meant to protect certain Democrat general like Samantha Power. Certain people like Samantha Power pushed certain policies. Samantha pushed R2P.

It is not a an instinct. It is a policy called R2P.

After Qadaffi was murdered (He had it coming, but there was no trial.), the US led by Obama pulled out, because they did not want to be in a quagmire. The Pottery Barn Rule did not apply to Democrat Obama. That rule is not quite an enunciated policy, but it might as well be.

B) Outdated

There is nothing new under the sun. When did R2P become outdated? It has fallen out of fashion, because of embarrassment, but that is about it. You could rebrand it and give it a new name, but basically it would have the same characteristics as Power's R2P.

Just consider 3 or 4 election cycles from now, R2P, an Obama implemented policy, could be rebranded and championed by the new people. It could be lauded by some of the same people at the NYT as new (not outdated) as if the NYT has no memory.
