Because the case-fatality rate has stayed fixed for so long and there are now so many reported cases, predicting the virus’s death toll in the near term has become a matter of brutal arithmetic: 150,000 cases a day, times 1.5 percent, will lead to 2,250 daily deaths. In the spring, the seven-day average of daily deaths rose to its highest point ever on April 21, when it reached 2,116 deaths. With cases rising as fast as they are, the U.S. could cross the threshold of 2,000 daily deaths within a month. Without a miraculous improvement in care, the United States is about to face the darkest period of the pandemic so far.

Different trackers give slightly different numbers but there were over 1800 deaths yesterday, though the 7 day average isn't "only" about 1250.

First things first

3:20 PM = Loser

Statewide they say 600 people are on ventilators. It is a big state so what does it mean? How many people are typically on a ventilator. year round and during the winter. I think it will be worse of course in January and February, when the air is dry and it is cold. I also think COVID will be bad and flu will Miraculously take a vacation.

We had maybe out first person in their 40's die of COVID. They had been in long term care at age 40. I am betting they were fat, out of shape, and pasty. Walking for health is not someone in long term care is allowed to do. It is the exception not the rule.

I lived for 3 or 4 years a block away from a group home. I never knew it for the longest time. I was driving by on the way home and noticed these people milling in the front yard of a house and spilling out onto the street. The chances those people got fresh air and exercise is nil. Some underpaid healthcare workers probably walked off the job and left their charges unattended. At least that is what I figure.

Looking at my state they are using 1/3rd of the ventilators that they have. They are using 1/2 of the ICU beds that they have Maybe around January or February they might reach 90%.

If they reach 90% the military active and reserve can help them surge if needed, It was not needed last spring and I doubt it will be needed this winter.
