Why The Backlash To A Proposal To Allow Non-Veteran Presidents To Be Buried At Arlington Cemetery?

President Trump Visits Arlington National Cemetery

Daily Mail: Pentagon faces backlash over proposal to allow non-veteran Presidents to be buried at Arlington - with some saying Trump is behind push to ensure HE is laid to rest at famous military cemetery

 * Under current rules, almost all veterans can be buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, DC
* However, they are fast running out of room, and the Pentagon is proposing new eligibility criteria
 * Under a new proposal only Purple Heart recipients, former POWs and those killed in active duty would be allowed in-ground burials
 * All presidents and vice presidents would also be eligible to be interred there if the proposal goes though
 * The proposal has angered veterans who say political leaders should not take up coveted space in the military cemetery if they have not served

A Pentagon proposal to allow presidents and vice presidents who haven't served in the military to be buried in Arlington National Cemetery has been blasted by veterans.

Some military members are expressing opposition to the potential plans, claiming it is an attempt by President Trump to ensure that he will be laid to rest at the famous cemetery when he eventually passes away.

Back in September, the Defense Department sought feedback on potential plans to restrict who could be buried at Arlington, saying that they were fast running out of space.

WNU Editor: A U.S. President is also the Commander in Chief. I have no problem if a former President and/or Vice-President wants to be buried there.

All presidents and vice president s have served in the military, The president is the CINC. Therefore he serves as much as a general; for example.

Some of our esteemed generals served overseas in wartime, but lucky for them they were never a 2nd looie out on patrols If you are a lieutenant colonel in a warzone, I am not sure how much danger you are actually in. As much as an AAFES employee?

Maybe those generals, who served overseas in time of war at O5 or higher should give up their spots at Arlington to contractors who drove trucks on the MSR's And ASR's.

Presidents have more skin in the game than the hundreds of generals in the DoD. They are a bigger target. Saddam went after George H.W. Bush not some nameless general.

Anon (9:34),

Excellent point. All the more for someone like president Trump who actually challenged allot of powerful world leaders who certainly would come after him when they can.

I don't think president Trump has even thought about where he's going to be buried. He's in excellent health and plans on running again in 2024.
