The US set a new record for coronavirus deaths reported in a single day on Wednesday, per the COVID Tracking Project. It marked the fourth time daily deaths have exceeded 3,000 throughout the pandemic - all four taking place in the last week 


 * The US reported a record 3,700 new deaths on Wednesday, according to data from Johns Hopkins 
 * It marked the fourth time daily deaths have topped 3,000 throughout the pandemic - all four in the last week 
 * Hospitalizations also set a new record with 113,069 - extending an 11-day streak of daily increases 
 * The US added more than 230,700 new cases on Wednesday, bringing the total to over 16.87 million to date 
 * Efforts to distribute Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine experienced several hiccups on Wednesday 
 * Pfizer announced that it would deliver about 900,000 fewer doses next week than are set to ship this week 
 * The Iowa Department of Public Health said federal officials decreased their allocated doses by 30 percent 
 * Alabama and California also had supplies cut short after roughly 4,000 doses arrived too cold 
 * Shipments of hundreds of thousands of doses for Florida were delayed due to a production issue with Pfizer' 
 * In more positive news the FDA revealed that Pfizer overfilled vials of its vaccine by up to 40 percent
 * It means over a million more doses than anticipated will be available if clinicians use every drop in the vials 

The US set a new record for coronavirus deaths reported in 24 hours with more than 3,700 on Wednesday amid troubles with the vaccine rollout. 

The harrowing tally from Johns Hopkins University marked the fourth time daily deaths have exceeded 3,000 throughout the pandemic. 

All four have occurred in the last week. 

The nationwide seven-day average for daily new fatalities now stands at 2,507, according to the COVID Tracking Project, with a total of more than 306,000 to date. 

The COVID Tracking Project's Wednesday death toll stood at 3,400 as of 8pm - below the count from Johns Hopkins but still a record.
