How 'Honey Traps' Are Set By Spies On U.S. Soil

How "honey traps" are set on U.S. soil

Just days before the attacks of September 11, 2001 one ranking U.S. military intelligence officer was recruiting linguists for counter-drug operations -- when he received a phone call from a woman claiming that one of his potential hires had ties to terrorism.

They agreed to meet in a downtown Manhattan bar so the officer, who still works in the security sector and requested not to be named, could take down the details of the tip.

"In walked an absolutely stunning, drop-dead gorgeous woman," he recalled.

"We just had a casual conversation. She mentioned she had family in Florida – they happened to be right where I was living."

A coincidence?

WNU Editor: The above post and video with Gordon Chang on how these Chinese spy/honey-trap  operations work is spot on. I should know. This happened to me when I was working in China as a minor diplomat in the late 1980s. One day my usual translator was replaced by a gorgeous and young university student practicing languages. It failed because I knew what they were doing, and I had no interest to get involved in such a relationship. She was replaced a week later, and my usual old and grumpy translator was reassigned to me.

Interestingly. After that experience my job became easier to do. My guess is that the Chinese made the calculation that I was more serious about my job (arranging and/or helping to make small business deals) than fooling around and being easily exposed to blackmail. In a certain way .... I had passed their test.

I'm pretty sure we do the same thing as well. All men have the potential to be vulnerable to such things. Did you "pass their test?" In the sense that you proved you could not be easily manipulated or distracted, I would say you did. As a bonus, your job was much easier to do!!

It sure helps when China has a deviant, corrupt moron like Swalwell to work on. How could their job get any easier?

This guy is done and I hope he takes a dozen more down with him.
