Pfizer's Covid-19 Vaccine Setback Means It Can Deliver Only 50 Million Doses It Promised Globally By The End Of 2020

 

Daily Mail: COVID vaccine setback: Pfizer admits it can ship only HALF the 100M doses it promised globally by the end of 2020 after 'supply chain problems' - but Moderna says it's on to deliver 20M to the US this month 

 * Pfizer now says it will ship 50 million doses of coronavirus vaccine by the end of the year 

 * The firm had planned to ship 100 million doses over the next month 

 * A spokesperson told the Wall Street Journal that Pfizer will make up the shortfall by shipping more than a billion doses of vaccine in 2021 

 * UK regulators granted temporary approval to Pfizer's shot on Wednesday and the the US FDA is expected to authorize the jab on December 10 

 * Moderna, which uses the same new technology for its COVID-19 shot, said it is still on track to deliver 

Pfizer and partner BioNTech will only be able to ship half as many doses of its coronavirus vaccine as it promised by the end of the year, cutting its planned global rollout from 100 million to 50 million doses, sources told the Wall Street Journal. 

The companies had to walk back its plan due to slowdowns in its supply chain. 'Scaling up the raw material supply chain took longer than expected,' a company spokeswoman told the WSJ.
