President Trump Threatens To Veto The Defense Bill Unless Congress Repeals Section 230 That Protects Social Media Companies From Lawsuits

Reuters: Trump vows defense bill veto unless internet liability shield scrapped

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday he would veto the $740 billion

National Defense Authorization Act unless it includes a measure eliminating a federal law protecting tech companies such as Facebook and Twitter.

“If the very dangerous & unfair Section 230 is not completely terminated as part of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), I will be forced to unequivocally VETO the Bill when sent to the very beautiful Resolute desk,” Trump tweeted late on Tuesday.

Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act protects tech companies from liability over content posted by users, and has been under attack from Trump and Republican lawmakers, who have criticized internet platforms’ content moderation decisions accused them of stifling conservative voices.

WNU Editor: Not going to happen. I am willing to bet that there are enough votes out there to over-ride such a veto, and/or Congress will simply wait until the Biden administration moves in. The sad reality of America today is that protecting the power and reach of these companies is far more important than the defense budget.

Local, sandlot baseball radio hosts opined that repeal would hurt Parler and all websites that had comment sections.

There are many different ways a law could be worded, but I think the host had a point. I can foresee 'the law' ignoring twitter and going after Parler.

Twitter has banned all sorts of things like President Trump or COVID news. However, it is instructive what they have not banned.

Twitter did not ban the blood libel that a Chinese diplomat, Lijian Zhao, leveled against Australia.

How 'wolf warrior' diplomat has built a career out of inflammatory tweets including horrific post about Afghan killings

The photo is doctored. Jackwagon Jack Dempsey refuses to take it down.

I suspect that some in Congress will try to censor social media. It will be aimed at Parler, when Parler grows larger than Twitter. It will be DemoNAZIs leading the charge.

It is amazing to me that his bit of fluff is IN the defense budget bill. What does this have to with the military. should be a law that addons have to pertain to main theme.

Why complain a clean bill, when a clean bill is such a rarity that the date is marked on the calendar a a movie made about it.

Nice try at trolling, but no cigar.
