* California, Louisiana, New Mexico, North Carolina, and Indiana are among those who have listed equity as a 'key principle for vaccine distribution'
* New Jersey, California and Kansas will focus on improving access to the vaccine by targeting transportation issues
* New Mexico will focus on Native American communities
* Many states will be focusing on their communication to black communities who have shown in increased hestitance to take a vaccine
* In the US, black and Hispanic people are almost three times more likely to die from Covid-19 than whites
Every US state has been advised to consider ethnic minorities as a critical and vulnerable group in their vaccine distribution plans, according to Centers for Disease Control guidance.
As a result, half of the nation's states have outlined plans that now prioritize black, Hispanic and indigenous residents over white people in some way, as the vaccine rollout begins.

WNU Editor: In the province of Quebec (Canada) where I live, 90% of those who have died from the virus are seniors in long term care facilities. They and their health workers, including all those who work in hospitals, are the first priority to eb vaccinated. Race is not a factor in this decision. And after that the vaccine will be given according to age with the oldest being the first. This makes sense to me because it is the seniors who are the most vulnerable to this disease. Because the Moderno vaccine can be handled at temperatures more easily than Phizer's, this vaccine will first be used in remote communities that do not have the facilities to take care of people who may get sick from Covid-19. This also makes sense to me.
But prioritizing the distribution of the vaccine according to one's race/ethnicity, and not by age and/or their medical condition. I feel very uncomfortable if this becomes the policy.

"...90% of those who have died from the virus are seniors in long term care facilities." This is pretty much true here in the Houston, TX area where I live as well. I think its probably true pretty much everywhere in America and probably Canada as well. At the risk of sounding callous as this is not my intent, lifespans in long term care facilities are not "long" in these, never were, and never will be. In fact, before the virus I thought these were wildly misnamed. The fact is that a sizeable percentage of these people even if COVID-19 had not claimed their lives something else would have within the same period time that the virus has thus far run it course.
With this in mind we can begin to formulate a strategy as to how to contain this. Since the greatest risk is personal care homes, focus the energy and resources there. At least in America instead of focusing on the obvious areas of risk, the government declared war on the American people with the "lockdowns!!" These "lockdowns" have, at best, merely slowed the progression of the virus but have not halted it in anyway. Essentially whoever was going to get this lockdown or not they're still going to get it. Perhaps it will take al little longer by locking down but the end result is unchanged. At worst, such lockdowns have had no effect at all. The spread of the virus appears unchanged whether one locks down or not.
Since the personal care homes are the primary spreader, one definitely does not want to put people with this disease in them. If a leader does this, this would suggest someone who lacks common sense or has another agenda that isn't compatible with stopping the spread of the disease.
Agreed, Poster. A few more months on an iron lung really ain't worth clapping about. And to add insult to injury, being a modern medical miracle and thus "living" a short time longer than might have occurred doesn't even get one a participation trophy
