Mark Episkopos, National Interest: Russia Has the Most Tactical Nuclear Weapons on Earth
The question we should all ask is pretty simple: why does Moscow need them?
The Russian Federation is widely believed to possess around 3,000 to 6,000 tactical nuclear warheads; that number is significantly down from its Soviet predecessor, which owned at least 13,000 and as many as 22,000 tactical warheads by the end of the Cold War in 1991.
But Russia continues to have the most tactical nuclear warheads in the world, and there are no signs that this will change anytime soon.

Why are Russia’s Nuclear ICBM Launchers on Combat Alert? To annoy both President Trump and the incoming Biden Occupancy.
Per norm.
They are Xi insurance.
I didn't know we were supposed to ask "why" Russia's ICBM launchers are on combat alert. I just always assumed they were like I would assume or hope our ICBM combat launchers are on combat alert.
The reason they would be kept on combat alert 24/7 every day seems obvious. They may be needed to counter an attack when it's least expected. Furthermore if an adversary or potential adversary knows your ICBMS are always on combat alert experiential common sense suggests they would be less likely to attack.
I would expect America's ICBM launchers to always be on combat alert. Frankly I would be "worried" if they weren't.
WNU Editor posted an alarmist article.
ICBM launchers of any kind, are always, on combat alert. Because the MAD principle can fall apart at any moment.
So nothing to be worried about, other than an article grabbing headlines.
The article cited "Why are Russia’s Nuclear ICBM Launchers on Combat Alert?" has a misleading headline. The article does not even mention Russia's ICBM launchers being on "Combat Alert"
