Editor's Note
Busy today. I live in Quebec and we are going under a curfew staring today (from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM). This curfew will be for one month (or so they say). I do not want to be in the city, so I am packing up my stuff to stay in my chalet during this time. Blogging will return later tonight.

There are seven of us around a lake in a valley.
The fact that two of my neighbors are Russian helps.

I don't have a Chalet. We are confined to the desolate landscape in the radius of San Clemente, CA. ;)
On a cul-de-sac with a dozen or so other homes. We're on friendly terms with all our neighbors. Also several close friends within ~3 miles.
I've sort of made it a policy to keep neighbors next door and friends across town. Being that becoming best pals with the guy next door usually doesn't work out too well. But friendly neighbors are a must have.
But I know the folks well enough to have a July Fourth block parties, occasional BBQ's and I know their politics pretty well too. We're are in the same camp to varying degrees. Some are armed, but most aren't. I've shared some of my ownership with a couple guys - maybe not a good idea, but its done. So far the feedback is that they want to purchase right now. (Good luck).
But as families we've all lived here with one another for the past 18 years. There is one mentally ill young man who lives across the street a few doors down. Wealthy parents who shelter him in an investment that is unfortunately on my street. Looks to be about 30 - ill favored in appearance with some behavioral issues. He's had a couple outbursts and frightens the young mom/wife who lives next door to him. Other than that the street is pleasant.
As to the reliance on them to handle themselves under more stress, to handle a weapon - I really don't know about that.
But the basics are there. Goodwill, mutual respect and long term familiarity. Something to work with.
So 4 fire teams.
Russ, can I be a rifleman in your militia? My mom said she'll make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for our recon missions.
Plus my backpack has punisher stickers on it so people will know I get a lot of pussy and am not in any way conflicted about my sexuality.

My Montreal home is in one of its suburbs.
It faces the Saint Lawrence River.
I know all of my neighbors around me.
They are all seniors living on their pensions.
I have a condo in Moscow. I know everyone in the building.
I also know the people on both sides of the condo building
My parents home is in a gated community outside of Moscow.
IMHO that is probably the safest place in the world.
